Recruitment Agencies.......Help!!

Hi all,

I am moving to Melbourne on 10th August with my family, and I am going on a Spouse visa (lucky me!!). I have emailed my CV to several recuritment companies, and followed this up with phone calls but seem to be getting nowhere. I feel like pulling my hair out, and I don't have a lot left!!!

I am not on the wanted skills list, having worked in Insurance for the past 20 years, but it seems to me that Recruitment Companies do not to take anyone as a serious candidate until they meet them face to face (this is the same here too, I know!). The last thing I want to do when I arrive is spend a week meeting with these people, another week waiting for them to do anything, and another few weeks waiting for interviews!

Does anyone know of, or have used, or could recommend a Recruitment Company based in or around Melbourne that will take me seriously. I really am moving to Melbourne and really am looking for work! It just seems hard to convince these people of this fact!!

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Dean

Dean, I went through what you are going through at the moment but in Brisbane I started looking a month before i arrived in OZ. For the last two weeks I been going in and out of the city like there no tomorrow. Just be prepared to get alot of the same advice from the agencies. I been told i should relocate to Sydney or Melbourne as i worked in Finance back in the UK but they dont undersand that you moved half way round the world and to ask my partner to move would be insane.

hi ya, cant really name any agencies within your field of work, but if you try SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site and Job Search - Australian jobs - Job listing - Find a job - CareerOne you can e-mail cv's of to them and they will e-mail you if anything in your line of work comes along etc!
hope this is of some help to you?

Jamie Smith is on a distinguished road
Hi all

The online portals like Seek and recruitment agents combined only have about 25% of jobs available. The other 75% can be had by doing your research and making direct approach to the employer. That way you avoid the "no visa no job" scenario and also avoid competing with the hundreds of other applicants who "can start tomorrow".

We have a good hit rate with our calls once we filter the employer lists we work with.

I used Michael Page in Melbourne who were very good, they focus more on the larger ASX companies so if they cover your occupational area they would be a good place to start.
