Talking Nursing Assessment for Oz

Hi does anybody know if all nurses have to do an assessment to enable them to get a Job in Oz. I am an over 45 yr old nurse and recently went to the London expo and spoke to a couple of exhibitors who told me that if I get hospital sponsorship I can get a job in Oz, but neither mentioned an assessment, so is an assessment only for nurses under the age of 45 or for nurses wanting to gain entry under a skilled independent visa? Also should I wait until I get my Australian registration before looking for a job. Can I contact hospitals direct for a job and ask if they hire under sponrship scheme or should I only look on the internet?

Thanks for any help. Di

Hi, yes assessment of skills is only for an independant visa.for a sponsored visa you just need to get intouch with NMC and get them to send off proof of your qualifications to what ever nursing state board you are looking at going to (e.g western austrlia, south australia etc). You can phone/email hospitals ditectly to ask if they do the sponsorship scheme-alot of them do, and can apply for jobs before you have your oz nursing registraion.
