Beware Employment agencies

Hi
please be aware of putting to much hope on employment agency in OZ
they are not the best in the UK but they are AWFUL out here
everyone you contact will want to see you before they go any futher
even if they have no jobs its just a complete waste of time

and some just shouldnt be allowed to work this is a true story

someone i know went for a good job with a good salary in FMCG
they got on really well with the interviewer and thought great in with
a good chance, to be told no you didnt get the job by the agent
so not being shy she phoned the company up for feedback on why she
never got the job, and when they spoke the company had been told
she DID NOT want the job and vice versus

I agree, i have been to several agencies & they get ya down there, spent 2 hours at one doing different types of tests (which i did pass) then you never hear from them again, or they give you so much bull s%#t - a common feedback for them is - the vacancy got filled internaly. they are a waste of time & energy.

fatpom is an unknown quantity at this point
Yes!!! They are a pain but sadly they are also the source of many (if not most) jobs in many industry sectors.

If you don't hear from them they decided you weren't suitable.

All you can do is play the game and remember like Estate Agents they don't represent you, or the employer, only themselves.

Staff turnover in the recruitment industry is around 80% per year, a diabolical level. Often driven by terrible wages for commission based workers, no wonder few will talk to migrants as slower visas equals placement means slower cash flow for the consultant.

And service for employers is sometimes as bad as treatment for candidates.

Recruitment agents do not hold most of the jobs for any sector. Only 1/4 of jobs are advertised through recruitment consultants or online portals.

Most jobs in all sectors are placed privately, given to people in direct contact with the employer. The best way to find work is to do the hard yards and make direct approach to employers - helping with this is the reason why Hire A Migrant was set up.

Quoll will become famous soon enough
Aus is very much a place for "not what you know but who you know" so getting employment can definitely be tricky. Even when there appears to be a level playing field with positions advertised etc, there is usually someone's agenda going on in the background. Nothing beats having a network and knowing someone!

How true, we went to a recruitment agents who asked us to register for a government number to ensure that she got 150 dollars for setting up an interview. We soon found out the job had been advertised for two years and the firm had been closed for three years!!!!
How frustrating!
