Graduate jobs

Dear All,

I am moving to Sydney in November 08 on a spouse visa. I will be graduating in July with a BA Hons in Business studies, i want to work in HR or Marketing i have seen loads of really interesting jobs advertised on seek.com.au i have emailed a few explaining my situation and if they could consider me for future opportunities and had no replies

I just wondered if i am wasting my time trying to establish links with employers before i go out and if they only actually consider you for positions if your in Australia already? I work in recruitment and receive CV's from people outside the UK and if they state they are relocating here then i treat them like CV's in the UK but maybe its different in oz?!?

I know people get sponsorship from employers so it does happen but mainly seems to be in IT/Engineering.

I have been in a really good job for 7 years and i don't want to get over there and have nothing lined up.

Also i would love to do a graduate scheme has anyone tried to apply while still in the UK?

Any advice would be appreciated x

Looking for work in Australia

Hi,

I travelled over to Australia on a holiday working visa, but that was only far a year.

I dont know about the laws regarding foreigners looking for full time work in Australia, but as far as I can tell, as long as you have the correct paperwork (visa etc.) then you are allowed to work in Autsralia without many restrictions, the reason that employers are not replying to you I don't have an answer for, I know this is not much help, but it is all I could find.

Graduate Jobs?, try Careers & Jobs for loads of opportunities, especially Jobs for Graduates

Not really likely that they would go for someone who isnt in the country when we are overflowing with MBA type graduates I'm afraid. It isnt easy to break into work in Aus as a general rule - there is very much a "not what you know but who you know" culture which means that often you have to get in at a level well below where you are now and do the hard yards until you have networked enough to be recognized by someone higher up who may be prepared to hire you permanently. Only way they are really going to take notice is if the position has been advertised internationally which means that they really are desperate for new blood but I am not too sure that HR would be the domain that they would be after.
