Perth or Brisbane for Carpenter

Me and my family are moving to Oz later this year and wondering if we should go to Perth or Brisbane for Carpentry work. Also does anyone have a rough idea about wages. I have usualy worked on new housing but have done comercial work as well.
I have heard that you have to do either roofing or finishing, can anybody say if thats true or is it the same as England where you do everything .

Here in Perth there is hardly any wood used in houses the exceptions are roof frames and timber floors. Door frames are steel, hardly any lower end houses have skirtings or window sills, all windows are aluminium. Perhaps its different in Brisbane.

Cheers for the info. We went around some Perth building sites in November when we visited to set our visas going. It looked then as if there was only roofs or doors/kitchens. Might try Brisbane as i have heard they build wooden houses there. Are you in trade.

Hi brooksey

I'm not in the trade but I do electrical work in houses. The construction methods in Queensland are different to Perth. When I visited a few years ago I noticed that they used timber framed walls which you would never see here unless it was an extension. The only odd thing was they did the timber work before the brick or block work, I would have thought it would be the other way round.

No mate , that seems to be the way its going in England. you put up a timber frame and roof it before the bricklayers come. On some apartment blocks whole rooms are made in Germany even down to the decorating, then a crane fits them together and you plug in the electric mains to the meter and connect the water, job done. No work here in Sheffield as the country is coming to a standstill. Even the estate agents are halving their staff. We have sold our house and are now starting to panic a bit.
