CORGI equivalent in Oz?

Is there anyone out there who knows whether CORGI registration is valid in Oz? And if not, whats the equivalent? My OH is a commercial catering equipment engineer and we are not sure how easy it will be for him to get a job. We are going on a 175 with my job but even so, we are trying to research his profession as well.
We are going to Perth so if anyone knows any potential employers... or any info would be good!

hello. corgi means nothing over there. they have gas fitters over there, but i presume you'd have to retrain in perth. im corgi registered but am going as a general plumber and even as that will
have to retrain to a certain degree. as they dont seem to fully recognize other countries plumbing
qualifications.
would have to work under someone for a year (someone has to sign your work off ) and then i think its possible to get full licence and there might be some evening coarses invloved in that.
i could be mistaken but thats the info ive found out.
hope this helps.

Hi all
Corgi is of no relevance at all here. My oh is a plumber with 25 years experience (and was corgi registered) and here in WA has to (after proving he had at least 4 yrs experience) take a practical test at college & if sucessful he will then be granted a licence but will still have to take a theory course within 6 months of the licence being granted. This course is 20 odd weeks at TAFE and involves 1 evening a week. I think other states have different requirememnts though.

Hi
My oh has a job with a plumbing co & he's doing okay. Its quite different to what he was used to in the Uk as there he was self-employed and did lots of domestic central heating installations, bathroom fitting etc..Here he seems to be doing rather a lot of digging to lay drains in! Its pretty physical graft but the work obviously varies depending on the job. Wages wise I think you can realistically expect to earn something around 25-30 dollar mark per hour but again it all depends on who you work for and what you are doing. He starts really early (6am) but finishes at 3 and is home by 3.30.

My husband and I are beginning to application process. He is a plumber (C&G 6129). He will have his skills assessed by VETASSESS is that what you did? Did you still need to upgrade when you got to OZ?

Vetassess wil only provide you with a provisional licence which will enable you to work under the supervision of a fully licensed person. You will need to take further exams to become fully qualified yourself and work alone/unsupervised.

That is the case whichever state you move to.

Some of us cam under the old TRA skills assessment system which meant that you didn't even get the provisional licence granted and had to get approval for that on arrival in Oz!

Hope that helps a little.
Lyn

Thanks for that.

Who will provide what will the supervision entail and who will be the supervisor? Will my husband be able to be self employed during this time?
