Question bricklaying in Melbourne

HI, my husband and I are making the move to Melbourne (as soon as we can get our house here sold!!!!)
I'm an Aussie myself (so we'll be going on a spouse visa) but have been living over here for last 7 years and haven't a clue what's really going on with the trades in Oz at the moment. Like everyone else i'm looking to confirm a few things:
.are wages about 35-40 Aus and hour for bricklayers?
.is there really plenty of work?
.my husband has been bricklaying for about 13 years but did not do any formal training, will he have any problem finding work? Do you get asked for papers (except red card)?
If there is anyone working in or around the Mornington peninsulr area would love to hear how things are.......

Thanks a million, D.
