how to get job offers while still in uk???????

Hi

I have noticed on some posts that people have job offers, but how do these come about? Can you just contact employers from a directory or from job ads or do you put your cv or details somewhere???
Tony is a welder, so just wondering is there anyway to try and have something set up before arrival?

Also, his details will eventually be on the 'skills matching database', and I was wondering if anyone knows if many employers actually use this list?

I would recommend going onto the link for the area in Aus you wish to go as a starter and put your work/skills details on - then see what happens. Sometimes an agency will make contact......worked for us - however, for the moment we are not in a position to be over in Aus as quickly as they wanted so for now its just useful info for future use.

We have also researched companies on the net and just sent emails with info on our situation, cv and job references etc. That also gave us some positive feedback. Worth a try and nothing lost.....................

Hi,
Just type your Australian location into a search engine followed by welding companies.
example: Brisbane Welding Companies.

Then you can click the link that comes up and just send them a cover letter explaining your situation and if possible include your C.V's etc.
Send you info to as many as possible.

It worked for me, I've just accepted a job offer from a company in Brisbane on a 457 visa.
They are dealing with everything and I'm looking at being there before June 2008, just 8 weeks from first contact with my new employer.

Just had my chest x-rays and sent all the forms back and have been told my visa should be granted in 3-4 weeks.

Possibly the luckiest break I've ever had, but if you don't try you don't get.

Wow! Good for you!
We're going on a 176 so it will be at least Sept before we get visa, I think.

Hi Sheena

My OH is in the construction business and just applied direct to employers, we were then contacted by a bloke from a recruting agency and he has done all the leg work for us at no cost, we have 2 definate job offers and another interview lined up!
We are going on a 457 and my OH is arriving in Brisbane on Monday morning and meeting all the employers in person over the following few days so that he can decide who to work for, we hope to be in OZ by the summer.

We just did a search on google.au and it came up with hotfrog.au which lists all the companies in different fields in different states and from that we contacted 3 companies and asked about sponsorship so it definitely works.

I just did a search of mental health/hospitals, then found out contact details and emailed them asking if they had any vacancies (sent cv). Hubby applied for jobs via seek.com.au one company said they wanted someone to start right away, but liked his CV and would keep it on file. We thought, yeah heard that before - couple of months later they contacted him asked where he was upto with the visa, telephone interview and offerred him a job.
