Exclamation electricians HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!!

electricians help needed please.........
I am 29 and currently doing a night school course in electrical installation, it lasts 2 years and come june i will become a qualified electrician over here in the UK, will this course stand in Oz too?!?!?

or do i need to complete my 17th edition first before going through VETASSESS?

Also does anyone know the length of time it takes for a visa to be granted after applying?

Also again, is it worth waiting till i've finished my course even tho i don't intent to move out there till after its completed.......?!?!

Sorry for the many questions but any info/help would be great.

Thanks

Hi there if you are applying for a skilled visa 175 and going through vetassess I don't hink you are able to apply on the qualifications alone, you need to show evidence of working in that skill and having work experience for four years (we think!). The qualification is not enough, hope that doesn't put a spanner in the works. The Vetassess wanted us to show evidence of the actual work carried out and employers references etc. Hope that helps, sorry if its not good news. Feel free to ask any more.....Bernie

Hi Bernie,

I've been working as an electricians mate for the last 5 years, doing all the electricians work, just having it checked after....so i wont be a QUALIFIED electrician til this June...does that mean i'd have to wait four years from june before could apply on that particular visa?

thanks for your help

Hi, No if you've got evidence of the experience you've done then that should be okay with your qualifications. The best thing is to read through all the details from Vetassess website to make sure, as it does cost a bit to apply! I was under the impression that you were just doing the course and then hoping to emigrate! But they are really looking for evidence and experience in the trade, the more you put with your application the better, job references, equiptment used, etc etc. Hope that helps!

Sorry to make you panic!! It's quite straight forward to do it yourself, but you've just gotta take the time to read all the boring stuff, and it's possible with this website as we've had sooooo many questions answered on here as well and trying to answer some too. Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

I believe you also have to pass more exams in Oz to enable you to work as a spark , the 16th or 17th edition will have no relevance in Oz . You have to be pass exams in Oz to become an A class electrician , this enables you to work alone .

Hello Bernie

I am just starting my 175 class visa application and was wondering how your OH was getting on in finding employment for when you both get to oz. I am also an electrician so any advice you could offer me would be much appreciated. Our plans are to move there in mid 2009 preferably Brisbane. Look forward to your reply, best of luck.

Hi

We are in the visa process, partner is electrician. we are using the agency go matilda to help us with paperwork, and they have been so helpful. Spoke to them first off and they said that you need to be qualified for a year to actually do the visa (that is their minimum). Partner qualified in august so cant submit visa until after august this year. we can though get all the paperwork and do the vetassess stage first so its already to submit in august. But i would give go matilda a call if i was you, you get a free 10 min chat and they will tell you what time scale you will be looking at and what you should do.
