Vetassess Or Tra For Electricians??
HI there!
Can anyone tell me what is needed for an electrician to migrate to Australia?? Do they need to be assessed by VETASSESS or TRA? Is it practical or paper based & does every electrician need to do this?? Really confused: websites give you such conflicting advie, so not really sure!!
If anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated!!

Hi, sorry I cant help much as im in need of the same advice so hoping someone will reply to this thread.Ive looked on the vetasses website, apparently its not TRA anymore that does it. I know they have to do a short course, 2 days I think but not really sure how you apply and I agree the website is a little confusing, seems to be based in Oz but the course is done over here. Someone must be able to give us some answers surely lol.
ANYONE PLEASE!!!!!

Hello Both
Please see this link:
Go Matilda - Your Gateway to Australia - News
The changes which Alan Collett of Go Matilda described in the above came into effect on 1st September 2007. Therefore whether a sparky needs to go through the TRA or through VETASSESS depends on what type of electrician he is.
The ASRI list describes the different types of electrical skills that Australia requires. Work out which sort of sparky Hubby is, from this list:
A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information
The page giving a detailed description of the skill, the points available for it, the qualifications and experience needed for it etc also states which assessing body is responsible for assessing the skill in question plus it gives the link for the right bit of the TRA or VETASSESS website as the case happens to be.
If you want to do this on your own instead of paying an Agent to do it all for you then you have to be prepared to be painstaking, thorough and to do a shed-load of independent research with the utmost caution and care. In return for a fee, an Agent will spoonfeed you every step of the way. It is not safe to depend on anybody except yourself if you want to pursue the DIY route instead because no matter how well-meaning contributors to forums like this might be, we are not qualified & experienced visa-experts. Don't risk imagining that an internet forum can spoonfeed you because it cannot do so reliably and safely, my friends. The buck will stop with you alone if you follow amateur advice which turns out to be incaccurate and incorrect. Please do be careful about this.
If VETASSESS does it then they make a paper-based pre-assessment first. If the candidate passes that part then he will be invited to undertake a practical assessment on top.
If the skill remains with TRA instead then only a paper-based assessment is needed.
Best wishes
Gill
