Welders job ads: must have own tools?????

Hi
I've been looking at job vacancies on Seek and have noticed that a lot of welding posts state "must have own tools". Just wondering if anyone can advise me what sort of thing they're after.

thanks
Tony

Hand tools, power tools and probably a portable welder (stick welder). A simple trolly to drag the stuff around with.

The sort of tools any british fabricator would normally have.

Thanks Fatpom

Do you think own tools would be required for factory work or just site work?

Thanks again

Tony

Hi Tony

It's usually just mechanics being expected to carry their own tool sets (often accumulated through apprenticeship tool allowances). Makes me wonder if the employer is a cost cutter with easy on, easy off staffing policies - not having to buy tools for staff or find a use for them if they leave.

It's my experience that you'll be expected to have your own general tools for factory work. Big tools such as mig/tig welders, guilliotines, flame cutters etc are provided or hired in for a particular job.
