Hi Jan, I had my nails done (creative) when I was in Noosa, but specifically searched for a decent 'Creative' technician.

I too am a fully qualified Creative 'Master' nail Tech with 16 years experience, I originally did my training in Perth WA, 16 years ago, then came back to the UK full of enthusiasm to 'do nails'.

When I went back to WA a year or so later, I had contacted Creative Nail Design in Leeds and asked if they had a contact for me in WA. I got a job at Creative Nail Design in WA, adn they had a list of nail salons looking for qualified techs.

I think if you are good at what you do, and are passionate about the product you use, your work speaks for itself.

When I went for a job as a nail tech in WA, I had to do a tip & overlay, and a rebalance on the salon owner, she liked what I did and gave me a job there and then.

Hope this helps,

Good luck

Jenny x

Glad I could be of assistance

I meant to say originally, if you contact your product supplier in the UK and ask them if they have a product supplier in QLD (whichever area you're going to ), you could contact the QLD supplier and see if they have a register of nail salons looking for techs?

I think, from what I remember, acrylic nails are common in Australia, but I think they are cheaper to have done than here in the UK.

I'll be looking for part-time work as a nail tech. when we get to Australia, as it's such a great way of meeting people and building relationships.

Good luck Jan

Jenny

Hi Everyone

Went to Gold Coast last August and there were lots of nail bars/tanning salons, or nail bars within hair salons, so i'm sure there is a market for them.

I had my nails infilled while in Perth and it was the best infill id ever had. They lasted for about 5 weeks and still looked ok. Ther were loads of salons to choose from though. I was shocked at how many there was.

EM&M will become famous soon enough
I was working monile in Uk doing Gel Nails. They are really big here but seems the salons charge really low prices to do them. Obviously I dont know what sort of quailty they are but personally I have found that working mobile does not have the benefits as the Uk as you have to work twice as hard to make the money. Some salons charge $40 for full set. I just do friends and family now.

Dont have acrylic nails but there are loads of salons usually owned by Vietnamese?? families who get the girls in on dirt cheap wages - often the girls dont speak English so no chit chat and they are incredibly quick. Consequently their prices are dirt cheap too and I would think it would be hard to compete with them. Of course there are always going to be people who value quality over price but those salons do a cracking business and would be tough competition. I think you would need to do some market research to see what the competition would be.
