Barber moving to melbourne hopefuly!

Hi there, my OH is a barber and runs his own business in the UK, we are looking to go to melbourne - not the city! as he is a hairdresser he is on the skills wanted list but we are going on my visa as a nurse as he has lost most of his certificates through various house moves. just wondered what the best way to go is on trying to get him a job and if there are any possible employers out there wanting a barber with 20 years experience!!!!! can any other barbers enlighten us on their path of employment in melbourne?

hi

im from manchester. You dont need certs in melbourne as ever you go in, do a few cuts for a trial and off you go.

If you are coming in on nurse visa then you both are allowed in and he can go and work as he pleases

Ive just opened a barbers shop in a trendy village of elwood 3 months ago. Its getting pretty busy.

I need staff. When are you moving over?

hey, have looked at your website and it looks great. we have applied for PR 175 so it depends how long they take to get through the paperwork. we don't expect to hear until feb time. how long have you been out there - it looks like you started in sydney.

thanks alot

we have been here a year, looked at syd then moved over here in jan, like it alot better as there is more to do and melbourne has more soul than syd.

hope all goes well, give me a shout when you are over as i may have the seciond shop by then.

In rtesponse to the above poster, if you are good then you will have no probs finding work, male or female.

The barber industry is just tyaking off again in oz like it did in the early 90s in the uk.

Time to get in and undercut the salons by half price and do twice as good a job.

Ive been open 4 months now and all i hear is "thank god, was sick of paying 50 bucks and having to make an appointment"!!!!

good luck

My husband and son have been going to the same Barber for 20 years in Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula, he is a Brit and has his shop built onto his house. Very popular and his prices are still low. My son has grown up with him. They travel down to Hastings just to go to the Barber there.
