Employment Prospects For Panel Beaters - Qld

Hi everyone,
We have actually got our visa but we are trying to keep all options open to us!! We are going on a 163 business visa but my husband can work whilst there (visa in my name).

As he is a qualified panel beater/paint sprayer (CGLI fully time served) he is considering trying to pick up some work in this field or maybe starting his own body shop again (he used to own and manage one in UK).

The main questions are;

Is there much work out there for his trade
What is the rate of pay like
Would he need his quals here verifying
Would he be prevented from operating or opening his own body shop based only on his uk quals and experience.
What licences would he need???

I know that there are quite a few panel beaters already in the visa process and any advice would be great!!

Thanks
Debs x

Hi Debs

My OH is a panel beater too, we are having awful trouble getting info as we are applying for an independent skilled visa so his quals need assessing by the TRA - HOWEVER... they dont recognise NVQs as being proof of apprenticeship so I have had to contact his training provider REMIT and they put me on to some bloke who issues 'National Craft Certificates' which the TRA do recognise as this was what used to be issued before NVQs. (feel free to PM me if you want his contact details)
They have a web site which may give some info on setting up your own business but im not up on the licenses needed, sorry!
Maybe they could set up together!!

Sal
