[quote=villageidiot;203601]Thanks for the support mate!it looks like i'm going for the wrong job,all the intelligent talk and support seems to be coming from the carpetfitters!

Thats because all us carpet fitters are the muts nuts

To put a time scale on training, it took me about 3 years to start earning good money, and after 6 it got better still, i was a quick learner and have been fortunate enough to work for firms who, work up to a standard and not down to a price. I have also been lucky enough to expand my skills into many other aspects of flooring. I guess what im saying is, be paitent and try and get work with proper fitters and not some hack and slash cowboy.
If you do decided to go down the floor laying route visit Find laminate flooring, bamboo flooring, hardwood floors, carpet fitters and Installers, its a floor layers forum where you can get all kinds of wonderfull advice from rug monkeys much longer in the tooth than me !

Hi all,I'm an apprentice tiler in London looking to make the move over to Oz in the near future.
As for your questions regarding the salary in Oz I'm not so sure, but most good time served tilers can charge up to £45 a metre.
I'd suspect Oz would be in the same wage bracket.Would be about the same.
Believe me you won't learn nothing on some 8 week intensive course, and you would be £4000 lighter.
Tiling like all trades is one hard game and you've gotta know your onions:)
Hope this sort of helps
benny
