I am dual qualified. I have worked in Oz as a nurse but came back to UK to do midwifery conversion course. I re enrolled with the nursing board in NSW and applied for modified skills assessment as a nurse. However for the PR visa I am going on the strength that have been working full time as a midwife for past 16 months. For the actual state nursing board if you want to work as both you have to pay extra. It is different to the UK as seen as an endorsement. I think it is changing but in some states you have to register as a nurse before you can work as a midwife. Also try in work in public hospital so the work will be similar to the UK. It would be a disappointment to work in private and not be able to use our skills!

Private hospitals

Hey Why can you not use your skills in private hospitals? I am a newly qualified RMN and have accepted a job in a private hospital.

I only meant in terms of midwifery as the consultants come in and deliver the women so you are teated like an obstetric nurse rather than a midwife and the cesarean section rate is higher. I cannot speak for other nursing sections. I have worked in a private hospital as a nurse in Australia and apart from some strange practices and very demanding patients it was fine.

Hi
I just wondered if you could help me with a bit of advice. I am currently a health visitor here in the UK. In the process of deciding which type of visa to go for, and I am looking at Adelaide. What is the equivelant of a health visitor in Oz, and would I have to have my HV qualification recognised with the ANMC as well as with SA nursing board? I have had my general nurse qualification recognised already and I am a little confused which road to go down now. Did you go for a sponsored visa or independant?
Hope to hear from you soon
Liz (confused)

Hi alison

If that is the case then i would contact the NMC who should be able to advise you what to do. my college changed name but i managed to get in touch with them. unfortunately the transcript is the start of the skills assessment so without that you can't go much further.
good luck
bonnie

Hi Liz
I think HV are known as public health nurses in oz. i used to work as a community health nurse in the uk with the HV's and did a bit of research on it. i am now a practice nurse. they do have professionals look after the young - perhaps a midwife on this site will know more about what happens after they are discharged from their care. worth asking.

Hi Bonnie
Thanks for the quick reply which has helped me to clarify a few things. I have also worked as a PN in the past here in West Yorkshire, and it is something I would consider doing again if the right opportunity came my way. I have my asthma diploma, imms n vaccs training and minor illness experience. Also hoping to get the Family Planning certificate under my belt before emigrating.....pending a successful visa application.
Regards
Liz

i think you would have a better chance of doing PN work than HV work. just delve a bit and you will find the info you want. PN is a relatively new in oz, i did a bit of research and you seem to get paid more with less responsibility!! sounds good hey!!

Hi all. We just had our QNC registrations through, and have applied for a sponsored 457 as Husband, Mike, has job in Royal Brisbane. A little bit confused though, I'm RN and my registration states that, However my husband is RNLD and RMN - he applied for mental health endorsements during QNC application and his registration shows him as a RN. A letter arrived today stating that the course trancripts sent from Cardiff University are not suitable as they do not state subjects studied.

Mike trained as a learning disabilities nurse for 3 years and then completed a bridging diploma in Mental Health. The transcripts for the Learning disabilities diploma have been accepted but not the Mental health diploma. Both were requested form the relevant colleges - at a fee.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated - course was completed in 2003. He had no problem with NMC and is shown as dual qualified on NMC.

We will try phoning the contact at the university but are panicing as letter states that the QNC endorsement panel will be reviewing the case on Sept 17th.

Has this happened to any one and how did it get sorted.

Thanks
