Hi guys, i'm a psych nurse but have worked in substance misuse for over 10yrs. We've recently decided to emigrate to melbourne after a couple yrs thinking about it so i'm in the process of collecting all the required info to get my skills assessment. Its so frustrating when you're waiting on everyone else to send you the necessary documents!!

There is 3 of us coming out as we have a 10yr son who is so excited. oh and we're bringing out 2 dogs. Afew yrs ago we were out on a holiday and loved it. Any info on psychiatric nursing or especially substance misuse jobs/ opportunities in victoria would be great. Failing that any tips on how to survive the wait would be good!!

Hi! Looks like we are in the same position! I am a CPN hoping to move to the Mornington Peninsula next year, with my husband and two little girls. We have deliberated over which visa to apply for, and I have subsequently applyed to the NBV for registration (on a 457), then changed my mind to a 175, and realised I have to get a skills assessment done first! So, just waiting for the courier to collect my docs for the ANMC, then more waiting... Still dont know which visa I will be eligble for, having just scraped the required work experience, due to having taken maternity leave twice in two years. Hope the ANMC dont take too long. Do you know where you would like to settle? Are you using a nursing agency?

Hiya, it keeps changing where we're thinking about settling. I think, the Geelong region is favorite at the moment but dont hold us to that!! where in geelong, i dont know. We're still looking at all the options but the sooner we go the better!!
Everyday i'm checking the post to see if my training transcript has arrived and i'm waiting on a previous employer to send me confirmation that i worked for them. Then it's just a case of hastling my current boss for a professional ref and i can send it all off to the ANMC.
I'm hoping to get a job direct from a hosp' as i've heard it's better than agency work but i'm open on that 1. I'm not looking too much into the job bit till i've had my skills assessment.
We're hopeful going to the ozzie expo in Leeds in Oct, as there could be a chance of meeting potential employers, fingers crossed.
We're thinking of putting our house on the market in the near future before the prices fall any further. There seems more to this emigrating business than i first thought!!

Hi, Im glad Ive managed to find somebody in the same position as us! Have you been to Geelong? We visited Geelong in November, along with a few other places. We have opted to use a migration agent, after much faffing, as its not as easy as I first thought either (= even more money!) Now I have been informed of two other visa options if I dont fit the requirements for a 175 - just want to get over there! Then theres the house sale... Good luck, Emma

hi there, you need to contact the college you trained at for the transcript, i paid £40 for the priveledge!! and it took 6 months but some have been getting them quicker. just keep on at them!! you need to send anmc copies of ur diploma or degree along with NMC statement of register and birth certs etc. you need to pay a fee of $600 odd, when you have the ok from them you will need to apply for to the board of nursing for the state in which you want to work. for me i am going to melbourne so it is the nursing board of victoria. google the other. that came back real quick as i also requested a transcript to b sent to them directly.
once all that is done then you can apply for a visa.

good luck with whatever you do. i am presuming ur a nurse!! what are you specialising in?
there is so much good info here on this site you will get lots of answers. i couldn't have done it without them. still waiting for our visa and house on the market now so waiting waiting waiting. its hard but you have to put up with it.

bonnie

Hi Fiona
I can't believe it - I just did that too after reading your post - and I'm registered!!! I'm Soooo happy!
I should introduce myself - I'm Sj and I'm not a nurse...but i'm a radiographer and i'm going for the 457 with the option of PR when the time comes. Sorry i'm not a nurse guys but can one lonely 'ographer be in your gang?
Happy happy - registered in Qld - just need Oz institute of 'ography to approve me, then i can move forward on my visa. I've already got a job in Bundaberg Friendlies hospital. Anyone owrking around those parts. I'm going on my own so need some buddies.

Once you have your skills assessment you can apply for your visa, you don't have to register with a nursing board right away

nurse vs midwife

Hi,
I am in the process of applying for registartion in oz. On the form you have to state your profession (i.e. nurse, midwife etc) it specifies that you can only choose one. I am duel qualified and would like to maintain registration both as a nurse and a midwife. Does this mean I have to apply (and pay!) twice?
has anyone else done nursing and midwifery in Oz, any advice? is there any difference in pay?
hopefully going to perth area.
cheers xxx
