You get a certificate as well - I couldn't stop smiling when they arrived, it felt like I'd passed my finals all over again.

Won't be long now!! p.s. have you joined the nurses social group that Johatts started?

gingerctp is on a distinguished road
Hi all, I'm a community staff nurse for a district nursing team, only qualified 3 years ago - career change!! Spent my 1st year as qualified on an acute medical ward, then on the Emergency Admissions unit when the ward closed, been community nursing for 2 years and love it! Myself 34, partner 39 (works in computers) and my son, 14months, are toying with the idea of moving to Adelaide. We are visiting Adelaide from 29th Sept for 3 weeks staying with Steves family to get a feel for the place. Does anyone know about community nursing, requirements, pay etc. I have emailed the RDNS today just to ask a few questions.

Bit nervous about the idea of emigrating and leaving family behind but sounds like lots of positives towards a better life, how has everyone found it?

Look forward to hearing your replies
X

Hi there, i am a practice nurse and looking to go to melbourne early next year. i spent a few weeks out there in may and made a few enquiries about practice nursing whilst there. it seems the role is relatively new and not as advanced as in the UK, we nurses seem to do loads for the gp's but you mainly concentrate on immunisations and wound management out there. are there any other practice nurses who now work in oz that can tell me what to expect. i have been offered a job working for 5 gp's which i think i will accept.

Bonnie

They also have 'hospital in the home' scheme here in WA, for the purpose of things like giving IV antibiotics, so very similar to a community nurse role.
