Just a quick one about the graduate nurse programme - i won't have my IV competencies when i finish my training so depending whether i get a job here for a few months before going over on the graduate programme i won't be able to do IV's when i get there - does anyone know if that will be a problem? Will they do my training and assessments when i get there?
Also do i have to do a skills assessment on a 457 visa?
Thanks very much, i'm loving this thread, it's giving me so much information!!
Only problem is it makes me want to go NOW!!!
Cheers
hi
i dont know about the IV but you don't need a skills assessment for a 457
i would advise that if you are planning on going PR in the near future to get all the stuff together for it.
if you are not in a rush, get registered and then apply for modified skills assessment (loads cheaper) it is valid for 2 years
all the best

Sorry for invading your qualified nursing thread but I am nearly there.!!!!
We have only just joined this forum and already we have found out so much.
I am 24 and my partner is 27 we have just had little boy Ethan Wyatt who is 9 week old.
At the minute I am on maternity leave from my nurse training and I am due to qualify next October.
I am a qualified nursery nurse and my partner has been a joiner for over 10 years and he holds a CSCS card we had all intentions of waiting until I qualified before we began our visa application but recently we have been thinking that we should apply now as the process takes so long.
We have been thinking about applying under Mark but as I wont have any work experience as a nurse other than my training I am worried I may find it hard to get a job.
What are your opinions on this????
We have been looking into moving to the gold coast or sunshine coast.
We also have a dog and a cat that I am refusing to leave behind does anyone no what the process is for bringing pets along?????
hi
i am also in rotherham - brinsworth... it is a small world!
many newly qualifieds get on the grad course over in oz that could be an option for you..as for the animals you need to start ringing for quotes..there are loads of shipping companies, ring at least 5 coz the prices do vary..my dog forinstance there has been as muchas £1000 difference

I have been nursing here since feb 2005 and I work in an elderly care retirement village. I did elderly care in the UK too prior to leaving. My wages here (im in QLD) are equal to UK and I do less hours. As for standards of care, I feel that they are higher in the elderly care sector. We are supported much more in our work than in the UK and respected much more by my supervisors. Only yesterday I got given a gift by my manager to say THANK YOU for all the help, support etc over the last few months. I know that I would not have got that in the UK!!! I cannot speak for the wages in the hospitals, I have no idea about that .
I think nurses are treated better here but the downside is the job is turning into an office job, well in my area anyway. 80% of my day is paperwork based and only about 20% is patient centred which is sad. However I do like my job a lot more here than I did in the UK but I think that is more to do with the fact that I work with a better group of people that are more supportive day to day.

Countdown to Christmas.......24 days
First Time poster here.Have been researching this thread for many many months now.
My query is ....If OH accepts a sponsored job with ADF - Aussie Army do I need to do a skills assessment?
What is the next step for me as a nurse.
I know I have to apply to the state nursing board within which state I want to work.
What information do I need to ensure I get the correct grade?
I am 18 years surgical nurse part time with EMI and colorectal experience.
Have worked for trust and agency so do I need to get info from each agency / trust with regard to hours etc??How do I correlate this and does it need to be a certified copy for the nursing board.
My time line to start working is not important ( 3-12 months) but I want to ensure I take all documents and information certified with me so I do not have to rely on solicitors and other professionals.
We have our OH interview in London tomorrow.....wish me luck.

Hi Andrew & Gaynor, we (my family and I) are moving to Melborne next year. I am a Mental Health Nurse (for 8 yrs), currently working with older adults in the community. In which field do you work? I have read soem of the posts relating to nursing in Oz, and have mixed views. On the whole, they seem very positive, and a friend of mine who worked out there as an RMN backs that up. However, when we visited the Melbourne area in Nov 07, the psych nurses were on strike due to unsafe working condions (staff:pts) and poor pay! They have 'salary sacraficing' over there, which I need to read up a little more on, but is well worth investigating. Do you have an idea of which hospitals you would consider working in? I have a CD-Rom of info from AustraHealth (agency) and The Alfred - I met up with them in B'ham this year), which I can send to you if you like. The hospital websites are quite informative too, and The Alfred has on on-site 24hr gym! I have 'spoken' to people on social network sites who work for Peninsula Health, who say that there are many perks to working there. But, I guess it depends on what you are used to now.

Hi Mags! Congrats re your visa! Just a couple of things - is a skills assessment the same as registration with the nurses board of your chosen territory? I have sent my docs off to the
NBV(ictoria), but do I need to send atuff to the ANMC too? And, how do I post a new thread?! I have looked and looked, and cannot figure out how to do it! x
Hi
I am a mental health nurse and due to move to townsville to work in an acute setting in Dec. Any nurses going or in townsville out there? I have so much to ask/say!
