Hiya - I googled mental health hopsitals in Western Australia, had an idea where I wanted to live and didn't want a long commute to work. I then contacted the hospitals and attached my CV, got an interview and job offer before my visa was granted.

Hi All, Found this site today

Hey

Im constantly searching for info on getting into oz and came across you folks, managed to read about 17 pages on this thread and ran out of time

Im about to embark on a new phase in my life. I start my Childrens Nursing Dip in September and by the time ive finished i will be 45.

So from what ive read so far due to my age I will be best off going for the 457 visa? and because I will be a graduate can I look at hospitals taking on grads? or will i have to gain a certain amount of experience and go down the 457 route?

My mum has lived in oz for 25 years and is an oz citizen but i dont think this makes much difference to me as I will be over 45 anyway...(cant apply before im qualified can I so under 45???) just a thought.

Mum lives in Melbourne area, I emigrated with them when i was 17 but only lasted a year, ive been back to visit about 8 times, started with no kids now i've got three!!
(19,10,3).

I would like to go to Melbourne but OH prefers Brisbane. He wants the more consistent weather and Melbournes weather is a bit hit and miss..but at the end of the day would have to go where (and if) i could get a good job. (oh and the state with the least spiders would be of great benefit to myself ) I can dream!! i am day dreamer after all.

bye for now

please help

I'm a mental health nurse, trying to get to oz. I've been trying to get my skills assessment since early feb and it's driving me insane. I was informed by the anmc to get registration in new south wales first as it's cheaper and then to apply for a modified assessment. It took 3 months to get registered with nsw nmc and then I applied as advised to anmc. They've said they cannot process my application until I get registration, which I can't get until I get to australia. They've said an eligibility letter won't do. I'm so confused. Can anyone offer help. I think I've been ill advised and am gonna have to pay again and apply all over again. It seems to take forever. I'm applying for a 175 visa. Cheers Wendy

Hi you can get registration before you arrive in Aus, I was issued with my licence to practice in WA before I arrived, and I know others who have applied for registration first. I actually did it the other way though, and got my skills assessed by the anmc and then applied to WA

I applied for a 136 (175), you first had to have your skills assessed by the ANMC who issue you with a code for your visa application. I then asked them to pass on my file to the nbwa so that I could apply for my licence to practice. However, a few people have applied first for their registration and then their skills assessment which can work out cheaper I believe. Hollywood is a private hospital in Perth, don't know much about it sorry. I work in community mental health in Armadale, as part of Armadale and Kelmscott memorial hospital. Are hollywood sponsoring you? Because I didn't apply for the sponsored visa I'm not sure what skills assessment requirements there are for that. However, you need to find out if you need to register with the NMC in the UK when you qualify as they many have to verify that you are on the register I think. Aus is different than the UK in that each state has it's own registration system unlike the NMC which has central registration, so you'll need to register with the nursing board of western australia when you qualify. I think that Hollywood would only be able to withdraw the offer to you if for example you didn't meet the conditions e.g. if you don't pass (obvious I know), so what are the conditions of your job offer? Is it on receipt of you getting a visa? etc., If you don't know you need to check out what they are.

Ali x
