Hi, we came out on the 457 visa early feb. As we are both over 45 this was the only option. It is working out well as the hospital are now sponsoring us for pr. If i can help in any way feel free to pm me.

Hi there we`re just about at the same stage as you although we only qualify on the 457 the best place we`ve found for info so far is the `THINKINGAUSTRALIA.co.uk` website they also do regular FREE seminars alover the country which we have attended and got absolutely loads of FREE information which is really difficult to find!!!!!!Jan xx
Hello and welcome to the forum,
We as three families have used thinkingaustralia.com.au to help and guide us through our visa application, all have been a great help and nothing is too much trouble for the agents. Can i say that when you do your free assessment they call you back and start the ball rolling that quick, go and meet them, they do many seminars around the country, check out their website, you wont be disapointed. i am sure some one will confirm/deny but i think you may not be eligable for 175/176 if you have been out of working for the past 18 months..i know for the 176 you have to have been working for 12 of the last 24 months and i believe the 175 is the same..
you could go for a 457 employer sponsored as no work requirements for that i think and then apply for PR when you are there
hope this helps

Hi Debbie
Thank you so much for that. Looking at it, thats what i think, but it is all such a mind field eh!! If i want an employer to sponsor me, any ideas how the best way to go about it is?
I've also had some advice about the thinking australia seminars-any idea would it be worth me going to that next weekend regarding job opportunities and sponsorship??

We are coming out on a 457 and the RAH said it will sponsor us for PR when we get there. Do you know how much the PR will cost or do the hospital help with the funding?
Hi Clairey b i am in similiar situation just starting out - well since Jan.
Here's the thing - nurses are really in demand but basic requirements of 175 - independant and 176 state sponsored are you have to have 1 yrs experience in the past 24mths. I am stuck as i had child in06 and have been doing NVQ assessing since so not actually working as anurse (although classed as closely related occupation.)
I have just started back as RGN in PNH hoping that hubbie will get an employer 457 visa so we can all get out. If not I will have got back that 12 months experience needed. 457 is a temp visa but u can apply for residency after a yr.
Really confusing I know it all depends how quickly u want to go. You also could get out on a 457 if u can get a sponsor. As it is differrent to perm visas the 1 yr does not apply.YOu could be out in 12 wks!!
We also have our house on the market and going out to see Melbourne in sept. I expect things to move faster after that and hopefully house will be sold.
One other thing - when you choose the area u wish to go to - register in that state first eg Victoria then go to the ANC for skills assessment( part of the visa process) if its cheaper if u are registered first! Good Luck Catherine
To qualify for 175 and 176 you have to worked for 20 hours or more for the past 12 months. One of the things you can do (if you know where you want to be going) is contacting hospitals with your CV and expressing an interest in working there and enquiring if they do sponsorship. Most do. I don't think that they fund your PR application though.

The pr costs about $2,000, thats for the visa. Then you have cost of medicals etc. Dont t the hospital fund this, well mine certainly arent.

Hi Catherine-
Thank you so much for that advice. It really is a nightmare isn't it- the different types of visa, and what is needed!!!
Anyway, thank you again, and wishing you lots of luck.
