Midwifery ?
Hi guys and gals,
I am not a nurse, but am about to embark on the 3 year midwifery degree course at Nottingham Uni.
We are currently in the VERY early stages of looking into emigrating once i am qualifed, but there seems to be so much to read and learn about. I hadnt realised there were so many differnt types of Visas !. Im so niave ! lol
As there isnt a midwifery thread, i thought i would pop myself onto the end of this one, hope thats ok.
Any words of wisdom re midwifery in Oz would be greatly appreciated, like i say i dont really know much yet.

Hi and welcome to PomsinOz Em! My mum is a midwife and has been for over 20 years now! She got offered a job very quickly so you should have no problem when you qualify. Public hospitals are very like the U.K. whereas many private ones are consultant lead.
Lots of Luck with the course and all of your plans!!!

Hi
I am 52years old, we came over to Perth in 2003 on a 12 month temporary 457 visa. I was sponsored by Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. After 10 months they offered me a permanent job so we applied for permanent residency. I worked for Charlies for another year then moved to Silver Chain where I am a palliative care nurse in the community. The best job and best support I have ever had throughout my nursing career. We love it in Perth and good luck to all who are going through the process. It is worth all the stress

Hi Tom and Lou
I had same dilemma, dont have a credit card, I spoke to one of the cashiers at my bank who looked at the form and said I could pay by Debit Card, so I did............WRONG.......they sent all my paperwork back and I had to get a bank draft. it can take a few days to come through but it was fine. As for the fee, it was on the form I downloaded from the Queensland NMC. I think it was about $230.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tom and Lou
You can pay by cheque if you have a cheque book, One of the first things ive done is get a new cheque book as i sense there are going to be quite a few things to fork out on. Im the same as you on how much to pay I cant believe it asks for your bank details but doesn't say anywhere how much it is!!! Anyone know?

Hi Tom and Lou, if you go to NBWA site and put registration fee in the search it will lead you to a pdf file with all the fees. $i20 apllication fee and $120 reistration fee which will last up to the end of Dec 2009. You can then get a 3yr registration. Hope that helps
