Hand Tools - 110V?

Hi

Paul is a dry liner in UK and hoping to move over to Oz as soon as visa granted (whenever that might be!) Already started thinking about things and one question keeps coming up - what about his tools?

He has built up quite a collection over the years - chop saws, cordless drills which need charging etc etc. The tools/leads are 110v can these be used in OZ or do they use different over there? Should he take them with him or are there places he can buy them reasonably over there?

Seff and Sarah

Australia is 240v - even on building sites best to see if you can find a transformer - Transformers in Aust are available but expensive

Hi Seff and Sarah ,
My other half is a ceiling fixer /dry liner ,we are currently just waiting to sell our house and then we are ready to go .The frustration of waiting for a house sale is unbearable.
Where are you hoping to go to .Oh is leaving most 110v tools and taking cordless to start with ,aiming to put some in the suitcase of all things .
Regards
Jo and Dean

Im a carpenter looking to go to Brisbane in Jan 09. Ive been on recce a couple of times. I thought rather than buying all new tools why not take your transformer and change our 240v plug to aussie 240v plug. Thats what Im planning to do anyway, unless Ive got my facts wrong(any help any sparkies out there??). Went into a few tool shops and tools seem to be pretty dear???

Thanks for the info. Given us something to think about. Only just applied for our visa so think we have plenty of time to decide what to do.

How long have tools lasted with just swapping the plug over,or have they just worn out over time is thst what you mean.
Ive got 110v tools and only got a few weeks to decide.
