Question Teachers Salaries in Oz

Hi,

Myself & my husband have got our skills approved and are waiting to be assigned a CO in order to complete the final stages of out 136 application.

I'd like to soon start looking for work and would welcome any salary advice. Currently, I am on a UPS1 as a secondary school music teacher and should go through to UPS2 by September. Is the UPS scale recognised? I have approx. 10 yrs experience including running a department.

Can anyone tell me how this would maybe translate into the Australian pay scale? Or advise where I can get some further assistance.

On a separate note - how long does it take to be assigned a CO? Put our form in August 07, got a receipt in Dec 07 still waiting? And then when you get a CO? What time scales can you expect?

Many thanks

Colette

Hi,
I am just gathering my evidence for registration adn I found on the VIC education website, somewhere, a teacher salary thing. It really didn't make a lot of sense, but the minimum - with a bit of experience - looked about 50k. I really don't know if this is really the case or if I read the thigny wrong. So I will follow this thread with interest. It was on here... Department of Education and Early Childhood Development - Education or on here... Victorian Institute of Teaching - Home i think!! Happy surfing!

In Victoria you have to do a salary assessment when you are employed. You must be registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and you need to provide details of previous teaching experience.

I was on UPS1, 2 management points (protected salary due to end Jan 2008!) and had been teaching for 8 years. The only thing that helped grade my salary was my teaching experience. I do wish that my previous salary had been converted over here though! I have been put onto Level 8 (the catholic grade system) and Accomplished sub-divison A4 (state sector salary)

This link should help http://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/edulibr...lary_rates.pdf

Each state is different though - victoria teachers are currently preparing to strike as they are paid less than teachers in NSW!
