Train Driver on Sydney Rail network:
Careers in Service Delivery | RailCorp

Still a shortage of train drivers in Melbourne:
Train driver shortage looms, Connex warns - National - www.theage.com.au

QLD, SA, WA have rail net works..you can google then yourself. Tasmania, NT and ACT dont have trains.
There is also freight trains you see advertised everyone now and again.

They can't be that short of drivers in Melbourne. I emailed them last week and they haven't even had the decency to reply to what was a basic query.

Could be that the person that should be replying to the emails is driving the trains ?

Who did you email??? Conex? If so there you go. They are contracted to supply the rail network to the peoiple of Melbourne and doing a pretty crappy job. There was adverts in the paper a few weeks back and again a few months back.
They go trhough an external recruiting agency I think.

Thanks for info. Could do with that external recruiting agency contact though ? It was Connex via their website I sent a partial Resume to, little bit of my railway background, still waiting for the "thanks for contacting us but" reply.

This 457 Visa. To obtain one do you have to have the name of a company that wishes to sponsor you first or can you get one with a view of going over there "on spec" to get work via sponsorship ? Anyone know ?

Took a whole few minutes...

It is Home

Advertising
Advertising campaigns for Trainee Train Drivers are conducted bi-annually.

We advertise on our website for a period of two weeks. In addition we also place one-off ads (usually on a Saturday) in both the Herald Sun and The Age.

The application and recruitment process

The recruitment and selection process for Trainee Train Drivers is conducted over 5 Stages:

1. Applicants initially apply online (on average we receive over 2,500 applications).

Currently, applications are only accepted when we are advertising.

2. Once your online application is assessed, you may be asked to complete online psychometric testing.

3. Highest ranked applicants from the online tests are then invited to spend a full-day at our assessment centre, usually held during specific times of the year. Assessment includes:
Job specific psychometric testing; and
A behavioural based interview.

4. If applicants are successful at the assessment, the following three steps must be conducted prior to an candidate being offered a role:
Police Probity Checks
As required by our company policy, national police probity checks are conducted for all potential Connex employees.
Pre-Employment Medical Examination
As required by company policy and Code of Practice for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers, a pre-employment medical examination including drug screen is undertaken and conditional to employment offer being offered. For more information please see the Health for Industry website: http://www.healthoz.com.au
2 x reference checks

5. An employment offer is made to successful candidates to join a 73 week training course.

For further information please contact Career Focus via info@careerfocus.com.au or telephone (03) 5422 2876.
Hope this helps..
