calling all printers!!

Hi we are just in the process of applying to migrate to Oz afrer thinking about it for far too long to mention. We went to Melbourne (mornington penninsula) last April with our two boys and loved the area.
Met up with a print recruitment agent whilst there who said I would have now problem finding work and have since been in contact with another printing company who is interested in meeting up with me when I get over there. My only problem at the moment is that I seem to be 5 points short of the full 120 to get to Melbourne as my wife is a civil servant and her occupation does not appear on the SOL.
Does anyone know whether any companies actually sponsor people in the prinitng industry to work for them or know a way I could maybe get to Melbourne?
Would love to hear from anyone who could help!!!
Thanks

Yours hopefully

hi jjoes08, My OH is in exactly the same position as you. 5 points short, told to apply for the 475 regional (Mildura & District) put doesn't want to go there as it would be better in Melbourne, I'm also a CC too!

Sponsoring would be the way ahead

cheers any help would be great!!

Printing

Hi Jayne G

Sorry it's took a couple of days to get back to you. Hope you are well.

I know what you mean about the 475 visa. There seems to be more jobs in the Melbourne area. Sponsorship would be great but a lot of companies do not seem to like to sponsor as in the past they have done andthen the person they have sponsored goes off to work elsewhere or is poached by another employer, so it has put them off. That's what a print recruitment guy told my OH.

My OH is thinking about going over for 3 mths looking for work and has 2 contacts who would like to see him when he gets there, one is the print recruitment guy who has said that he does not think he would be out of work for long and that he would find work no problem. He has had jobs come up that he would have put my OH up for if he had been there, which seems a little frustrating really!!

I suppose they will not sponsor as they don't know you, anything about you or the work you are capable of. Our thinking is that if he went over then they could see what he is like and he can show them how good he is at his job (and hopefully offer him a job!) It will be hard for me and our boys but we will survive. So think that could be the way we will go, our house is on the market at the moment so keep your fingers crossed for us and I will keep you posted.

What do you do in the CC?

If you find out anything about getting there then please let us know too!

Thanks

Hi,

was just wondering if your total of 115 points is including 15 point for being British or already has 25 for doing the IELTS test.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your message. My OH has 115 including doing the English test. Looks as though we will have to go for the 475 visa. We are thinking about going to Geelong. It does look lovely just hope there are printing jobs around that area.

Cheers!

Sorry meant to ask you, how come your visa was granted so quickly within 6 months? Thought it usually took up to 12 months to sort out.

Are you in the prining industry? If so have you managed to secure any jobs yet?

Good luck

We got the visa so quickly because we used a great agent . Don't know how long you've been looking int the visa process but if you don't know :- up to last Sept all applications were done by filling out the forms by hand then on 1st Sept they changed the system to be able to apply online.
Our agent heard that they were going to set up a new department with new staff just to deal with the online applications. He then sorted everything out and had the online forms already filled in so that as soon as the new process opened he could send off all the info.
This meant that we were at the top of the queue of the online applications .

I'm ex RAF ( been out 13 years ) but passed the TRA as a fitter, currently working for a company making car parts in Germany.

I've only applied for one job at present ( still waiting to hear ) as we don't really know exactly when, or even where, we are going yet!!!

Mark
