Post teaching qualifactions

Hi, We are seriously considering moving to Melbourne from Huddersfield (UK) - so any general info that you can pass on would be good. I am a teacher with BAQTS (primary). I cant seem to get the aussie website to view correctly so I would like to know if this an acceptable qualification for teaching in Oz

Bottom line for teaching in Aus govt schools across all states is that you need 4 year university training so if you have a Bachelors in education which was only 3 years then you will have to do another year. If you have a Bachelors plus PGCE then you are fine. Regardless of how high up the chain you may be in UK - if you dont have 4 years then you need to do something about it.

That's right you need to have completed 4 years at uni and you need a copy of a transcript from your uni which shows the modules covered on your course(s). Just thought I'd pre warn you as I had to contact my uni for a copy.
Good luck

Hi

My husband and i are in early stages of visa process and both teachers. I did 4 year BSc Ed and OH did 3 year BSc followed by PGCE.. We're both fine but have to complete training programme in NSW before we can register and teach there. It's a two week course consisting of some theory followed by in school assessment - similar to teaching prectice ! Not sure about Melbourne ?

Good Luck

Natalie xx

Hi,
I'm currently filling in the forms and collecting the evidence for teacher registration in Vic. It's a bit of a paper chase and you need evidence for everything. That said howver I mentor trainee teachers over here and it is nothing like the process they need to go through. Definitely contact your uni (both degree and pgce) you will need detailed transcripts of your course and they can take an age to get sorted (12 phone calls and 5 different people for my pgce one!). Dig out your threshold applications too as they can be attached as eveidence for full, rahter than provisional, registration. Also, contact the pension people and they will send you a proof of service record - which you also need. try this link... it will take you direct to the page you need for the forms Victorian Institute of Teaching - Home . Hopefully my meandering burble has been of use, please fell free to Pm if I can help further.
Hazel
