That's an interesting comment!

When I did mine in 1980 those who had a pre '68 HNC looked down on those with a post '68 because post '68 was open book exam. The HNC name was changed a year before I started to HTC by TEC (precurser to BTEC) and open book exams changed back to normal to improve its standing... but in fact the opposite occurred because employers didn't like or trust the new name.
Within about five years it was changed back to HNC under BTEC but its reputation didn't get better it was consider even lesser for some reason?
Now you tell me a post '97 is lower still... interesting, why is that?
By the way the pre '68 mob did have some reason to feel superior to the rest of us... they didn't have to do too much more to be granted chartered status. Many of the blokes who mentored me got their chartered status this way. Many deliberately took several years to do it though to ensure they were past thirty years when finishing to avoid national service (army). :)
