Hi, myself and my family are coming for a holiday in Dec 08 to the Perth area, with a view to living out there in the future. I am a registered nurse and my husband a firefighter, can anyone give us some information about jobs, and how I go about registration.
Check online for downloadable forms from Nurses board of western australia (think that is what it is called).
All the information you need is there - gathering all the necessary paperwork, costs etc.
You also have to apply to the ANMC (more cost)
This can take some time so it may be advisable to start now
Not much help but I'm sure someone will be along who will give you more indepth information
hi there, we are going to an australian expo in london in april where there will be loads of info not just for nurses but loads of other skills on the wanted list, apparantly it is really good and they can often interview you on the day so i have been advised to take lots of cv's with me. just google australian expo and it will give you the dates.
i have just requested my course transcript which cost me £40, that comes from the college you gratuated from and they send it direct to the ANMC and that takes about 2mths but it just sits with the ANMC until they get your skills assessment through. you will also need to ask the NMC UK for a reference, another cost of £34 and they send that to the ANMC and the nursing board of your choice, for brisbane it is the nursing board of western australia. those all take time but in the meantinme you need to get all the paperwork together for your skills assessment and then it can take a few months to be passed. the best website is australian immigration site and the australian nursing and midwifery council, you will find everything you need to know on there really.
good luck - my family are just starting the process, going to melbourne hopefully but gathering the paperwork for the skills assessment is taking time at the minute, work are reluctant to give reference and then you have to get all docs signed by solicitor, another charge!!! costly process.

Hi julie
as well as the expo in Londoon in April also check out the nursing times/standard as nursing companies are all ways advertising and carry out interviews in the uk. When I went on a visit to brisbane several years ago was lucky enough to be in the right place when they had nurses job fair on which was A1. There were representatives from many of the australian states. Full of info and guidance.
If I hear of the job fair coming up will pm you
I would suggest that if you can get here on a PR visa it is a lot better in the long run, as you won't then have to apply later. I initially looked into taking a 5 year career break, but decided against that - so if you're not sure about the move your hospital should have a policy about career breaks and that is an option, so you can safe guard a job for if you return.
Like everyone else has suggested it is a little bit time consuming getting the stuff together,
Thanks for info, I have downloaded the form and currently gathering all the docs.
Do I send it through the post, and how long is the registration valid - Julie

you have to register evey year with the nursing board in australia be it victoria, western etc. the skills assessment takes about 2mths. all other documents sent to the anmc just sit there waiting for your skills assessment documents.
