      Smile Career Path

      Hi,
Just Started our migration process and looking for some advice on career choices in Oz.
I currently work in sales but fancy a change of direction when we get there. I'm thinking of retraining in carpentry or tiling or something of that nature, I'm open to suggestions. Does anyone have any advice or info on courses I could take when I get there.
My wife is a nurse and will already have a job to go to so we can probably manage on one wage for some time as we will also have some funds from selling our home in the UK.
      Any advice is most welcome.
      Thanks.

      Hi Nik,
Both my nephews in Perth work in the Welding / steel fabrication trade (they call them boilermakers)
They are both making a packet due to the mining boom.
One of them works away (up north) quite a lot and is making an absolute fortune.
Work 10- 12hr days on 4 days off. The company fly him back and forth to perth.
Says he should have his house payed off in about 4 yrs
The other is a Supervisor / Manager for a large fabrication firm in Perth and earns a very good salary inc company vehicle.
If i was going to re train it would deffenately be in some kind of engineering job.

Thanks for that information, I hadn't thought about fabrication but that could be an option. If anyone has any info on training/courses and how to go about it please let me know.
      Thanks again.

      Hi there,
My hubby is a window fitter, but has been looking into courses to widen his skill base. Check out TAFE SA Home page this is in South Oz, but I'm sure there are similar all over the country. There is also a trade school in Warwickshire if you were thinking of doing some courses before you go. They run week long intensive courses in all sorts of thing, quite expensive though The Construction Training Centre - Plastering Courses - Plumbing Courses - Tiling Courses - Bricklaying Courses - Carpentry Courses

      Good Luck

Hey becky, did your hubby finally go to any of the trade schools in SA? A friend of mine is currently thinking of going to trade school so I'd really appreciate any feedback you have on trade schools here.

      Thanks.

Wall and Floor tilers always seem to be in demand around Brisbane, obviously things are quieter all round at the moment but by the time your trained , licensed and ready to go things should be on the up again.
Painters and decorators are another trade that never seem short of work.
Good Luck with whatever you decide

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...
If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

      Hi,

No he didn't, he got a bit of work doing fascia, gutter and roofing when we first got here, but has decided on a completely new direction in pest control. He's been offered a job, but is just waiting on a start date.

      Sorry I can't help more,

      Bec x
