Unhappy Anyone over on a business skills visa? So stressfull

Hello there,

I am hoping to hear any comforting words of advice from anyone who has any experience coming over on a skilled business Visa.

My husband could easily come over on a skilled workers visa as he is an electrician, but a business visa allows you to bring 1 key employee which is my Father who runs the business, which means my Ma can come. If this was not able we would not come, as I just Love them far too much to leave them.

We run our small but sucessful business over here repairing laptops, Plasma Tvs, Pc's and most of the UK's cinemas projectors and amplifiers.

I am pretty sure that for the first few months we wouldnt be earning a carrot, so we would all have to jobs to get some kind of income whilst trying to grow the business - BUT would this be allowed on a business visa??

What happens if it falls flat on its face?? I know we would all get jobs (we are certainly not work shy) but would we be shipped back home? As the visa is for building a business, and if it fails is it a case of - "tuff!" and your sent packing?

Its alot of pressure and Im sure we are going to be working every hour god sends, but if we need income we are going have to get jobs, but I am worried this wont be allowed.

AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH Sooooooo much stress!!!

Please help. (by the way my husband is cool as a cucumber! Its me doin all the worrying)

Thanks a million if you can help guys.

Hi Adele

Just a quick reply - coz I could go on and on.

We came over on a permanent residency business visa in 2000.

It does seem a huge gamble - but also a great challenge as well.
You will be bringing all those years of experience and your work ethics so it's not as if you are starting from scratch.

We found the first few years quite tough as we were not sure what we would end up doing.
We did quickly realise that the two business plans we had for Adelaide were just not going to work out.
There was a lot of pressure as we did HAVE to have a viable business by year three and be able to prove it.
It did not help that another department of immigration decided that we should be surveyed every year - apparently unconnected with our visa but the pressure was on!!

To cut a long story short we are now very settled and comfortable withing the business environments we work in.
We now have 3 businesses - A corporate gift company, short term rentals/property investment and an olive grove.
We never dreamed of doing any one of these in our old lives!!!

Our businesses experience and attitude brought us through.

For the first few years I'm sure we were far more worried than we should have been. All the officials we met regarding our visa requirements were quite relaxed about the whole thing. We now feel that as long as we were in any viable business we were OK.

HTH

Hi Tyke,

Thanks for your reply. One quick question please (or actually two) When the first business plan failed how did you manage to find an income?

Unfortunately we are not going to have a little emergency pot, as this will be going on buying a house outright, so at least we wont have a mortgage to worry about but we will have nothing to fall back on.

Is there a certain amount you need to be turning over in that third year or basically do you just need to be able to support yourself?

I must say though you have calmed me down slightly.

Thanks.............Adele

Glad to hear I'm helping

We did come with a reasonable "emergency pot",It was the only way that I would come out.The business ventures did tend to cross over + I was not reeeaaalllyyy supposed to but I had a part time job

We had to meet the requirement of having an income producing business that turned over at least $100,000 AUD.Technically speaking we should have employed 3 people as well but that seemed to have been forgotten

I guess the figures are more now.

It was a very pressurized time for us but we thrive on challenge, also looking back we are very proud of what we have achieved.

As said in another post recently,we were firmly told we were given the opportunity to live and work here,it was not a right.

So we had to prove ourselves.

Having been through the process I don't think it is a bad one.
I can think of other countries with very easy processes
