Angry Nurse Pay Enquiry, Help!

Hi, I am in my first year as a registered nurse working in EAU, Emergency Department. I may be me missing something but I have been searching on the internet for what seems ages trying to work out the pay scales for registered nurses and where i will slot in. I know the payscales are different for different states, we are going to SA, found a pdf doc on the net. Please see

https://www.workchoices.gov.au/NR/rd...0/AP825646.pdf

Whats driving me crazy is what the different levels are, is it qualifiations? type of work?? Am I missing something?? Can't find anything onthe net to explain, Please Help, put me out of my misery! Thanks.

Jo

From what I have been able to find, and thats not a lot, I think the wages tend to be on par to here.

Can't comment on SA but here in WA you would start at level 1 if you're newly qualified and work up for each year of qualification e.g. 5 years = level 1.5 (it goes upto 1.9 in WA but I think they it's 1.8 in some other states).

Try contacting the anf they may have uptodate pay scales Australian Nursing Federation

Pay scales appear to be based on years worked since qualifying so level 1 is a nurse, level 2 is the equivalent of ward sister. Within level 1 the 1-7 appears to be years of service so when starting work here they will ask for a statement of service which you need to bring from previous employer stating how long worked and responsibilities

Thanks for all your replies. I am still a little baffeled?? According to the PDF document (see above), if I started on registered nurse level 1, second yaer of service, then I would be on 17.93/hour. Over a 38 hour week, 52 weeks of the year, that amounts to 32,700 dollars. Even at the current exchange rate, that only amounts to about £15000 per year. I thought the wages were comparable with the UK?? Why are they 5 levels of nursing?? Something doesn't seem right, don't know??

I don't know why there are 5 different levels, and it is rather confusing, Here in WA we work 40 hours per week, but are then given an accrued day off every month.
