Teachers - Are there any jobs?

I had a great plan - do a PGCE part time, qualify as a teacher , get sponsership from WA and go to Aus. The plan was going well - I got onto a course had less than a year until I qualify and then WA stopped sponsership for primary teachers!
I have read numerous stories outlining that it is difficult if not impossible to get a job in Aus as a teacher. Is this the case?
I am desperate to get to Aus and feel like the last year of study has been worthless. I have a young son (2 years) and a husband so the WA option would have been perfect as they would have guaranteed a job on arrival.
I am currently seeking a plan B. Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanking you in advance for you help. Mary

WOW, I am impressed that WA would guarantee you a job.

We haven't come the sponsored route although I know many who have. That being said, although they are state sponsored, SA does not guarantee them a job.

The newspapers report that a large proportion of Australia's teachers will be retiring in the next few years causing a big problem if there are not enough teachers to replace them.

However, as in other areas of Oz life, who you know is still a big thing here. Aussies would still prefer to have an Aussie referee who they can contact by phone rather than have to send an email because of the time difference.
