Its true that Ferra have a reputation here of being 'not an employer of choice' for reasons I can't confirm.
Its a fact that many jobs in engineering are casual/contract and project (ie time limited). This applies whether you've got a CinG or a PhD. There's no 'job for life' anywhere these days of course but its my impression that work is more transient in Aus than UK for engineering and I'm told its always been that way?
I think the answer is to treat employers as your customer, some are good some are bad, some are more profitable than others but like customers they all come and go.
