Accountant - CIMA

Hi All

My wife and I are looking to emigrate to Australia on a Independant Skilled VISA (175) and I am a little confused as to whether my qualification as an accoutant (CIMA) is enough for me to pass the skills assessment. Has anyone been through this themselves ?

Thanks for you help and we look forward to speaking to you all as we go through this exciting process !

Mark

Hi Mark & Hayley

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I know this is a real cop-out reply, but I'm afraid I do not know what CIMA stands for. Is it to do with Management Accounting?

Alan Collett is a Registered Migration Agent. He is the MD of Go Matilda, which is based in Southampton and Melborne. He is also a Chartered Accountant in both jusrisdictions and he is a regular contributor to PiO.

Alan is sure to know about your qualifications. You could PM him or e-mail him via PiO if you wish, or he may reply to this thread.

Best wishes

Gill

Hi Gill

Thanks for your comments - we will PM Alan. Are also going to call Go Matilda tomorrow.

CIMA stands for Charterted Institute of Management Accountant.

Kind Regards
Mark

Accountant

My husband is ACCA qualified and we are also using Go Matilda. We've found that ACCA is suitable for the skills assessment (and I've seen on a website before the story of a CIMA qualified accountant) who went to oz years ago. Not sure if this is relevant to you but my husband has to do further exams once, if, visa approved relating to company law and taxation but I'm told this would not stop him getting a job in the first place and doing the exams at leisure. Think Global are good to speak to and may be able to help you find a job as they will do for my husband, sponsorship is also available but we wanted permanent residency as got school age child and may have to pay school fees so that is why we are not going for temporary visa. Also when lodging skills assessment it took about a week for them to deal with it and we did not pay a fast track fee for skills processing either. Hope this helps.

Hi Generalis

Thanks for your comments - we are going to chat to Go Matilda tomorrow and the feedback I have received regarding CIMA looks good so fingers crossed..

Best of luck with your move.

Having spoken to a couple of Migration Agents, the CIMA qualification (as well as the other main accountancy qualifications in the UK - ACCA etc) should be enough to pass the skills assessment for a 175 (skilled independant) Visa ?

Hooray..

We are going to start filling in the paperwork this weekend..

my husband is a CIMA accountant with 12 years exp, 6 of which he has had his CIMA qualification completed. We are in process of applying and were wondering which of the 2 bodies that recognise CIMA would be best (ICAA or NIA) would you say that ICAA has the best prospects or did you apply to both?

CIMA will get you through but their maybe additional exams that you would have to sit. I am a CIMA accountant but here on a 457 visa through my wife.

CIMA isn't wholly recognised here, it's all about the CPA (equivalent to ACCA and all multiple choice exams) and CA (Chartered Accountant).

The Australian exams/quals rule here and will always have a superior status than, if not better foreign standards.

At the end of the day you will get a job, but unfortunately your qualification doesn't carry the same weight here.
