We are hoping to move to Frankston South sometime towards the end of this year and are looking for some advice on jobs in carpentry and joinery, I am a workshop manager at a manufacturing company of mainly kitchens, bathrooms and dental cabinetry , I am looking for a job in this area or timber structures for example roofs. Can someone help in giving me some idea of what the work conditions are like and the sort of salary to be expected, thanks.
Hi Steve and Mandy
I'm also a carpenter/joiner who will be in oz in 3 weeks. Did a rekki back in March, in Queensland. Jobs there were plentiful, most of the guys there seem to work 4.5 days only. You should easily be able to earn anywhere between $23 - $33 dollars per hour, depending on which carpentry/joinery job you decide on doing. From what i can make out there's 3 options open to you; option 1 - be employed by firm; option 2 - be casual; option 3 - self-employed.
From what i can work out the big money is in roofs, staircases, this is only what i've found out but i could be wrong.
Obviously if you were to go self-employed or casual you
would get a much better hourly rate.
Hope this helps a little.
Eddie
