thats not good aldo, dont they embrace the powerful, dulcit tones a brickie can produce? and doesn't everyone like a good fight,f%*k and fart? anyway, could you please help? is there much work for the superior trade on the sunshine coast area and is there good money to be made? i've heard that its mainly hourly rate stuff over there but i'd rather work on a price( dont fancy knocking my knackers in for someone elses benefit!) do you know what the rates are? cheers
2.25 winding down, tell labourer to stop bringing mud, he looks at me as if i'm mad, pack up tools.
2.30 (official end of working day) walk of to car and turn to see grown med quivering and wishing they had the balls dare to leave their posts without direction from a superior.
Working past the contracted hours (unpaid) is expected in many jobs... usually an hour or so. Working a 50 hr week for 40 hours of pay is often normal. Just the way it is.

It is not just here in Australia that this occurs
It is beginning to happen in the U.K
I worked for an electronics company in the U.K 2002-2003 they got rid of a third of their workers
And dumped that work on the rest of the workers you could not say any thing
If you did you got written warning for the most trivial reason.

Yep! all you can do is vote with your feet and hpoe the next place is better run... often not the case though.
Anyone with some industrial engineering training knows well that productivity is seriously affected through long hours... just look at the office workaholic... they look good until you actually look at their productivity.
As a contractor (sparky) in the UK I would have a big problem working for more than I was being paid for - most of the time we get an hour here or there added on.

Just as long you've got submissive brown nosers willing to do it and shrugging their shoulders and saying "thats just the way it is" it will carry on.
I've never expected anyone working for me to work for nothing, a days pay for a days work. Its that simple (well to me it is)
I' ve had more jobs and interviews in the 14 weeks since I' ve been in Queensland than I have in the 24 working years of my life!
I am told that my Resume and qualifications are very impressive but I can't get a decent job. Only this week I have turned down interviews for jobs paying between $14 to $17 an hour - $35,000 a year! I 've never earnt big bucks but I was earning that 20 years ago.
To think I spent 7 years at college and paid the TRA millions of bucks to get get my qualifications recognised for my visa and then to cap it all, I can't carry out my job here until I get a license in the trade which I've spent 20 years in at the cost of more exams and $520. Who's making money ?- Not me that's for sure! I ' ve now spent 3 weeks rectifying network cabling around the coast that look like the remnents of a Cassowarie's nest and I am not even qualified. I've never seen anything like it!
Enough of my whinging - (I am told it's ok to whinge with other POMS.)
Picture my scenario - Last week I had a run in with the boss as I had clocked up 20 hours O/T over the previous 2 weeks trying to get the work completed, which at the time - the boss was happy for me to do. Payday comes, and the O/T is rounded down to 8 hours O/T. The boss also says there is no more O/T unless authorised by the Director (posh name for the boss) as the cost cannot be passed onto the customer - I am told to finish at 4.30pm. Cometh 4.15pm Friday arvo - and the boss phones me to go on a big job....... Righty mate! I am going to call yer bluff 'ere mate! "But it's 4.15pm Friday Arvo and my kids are playing soccer (footie to you and me) at 4.30pm and I also need your permisssion to work overtime". "Right, I'll get my tools out and do it myself, bye". "O.K then boss, see yer Monday!" LOL. I got the impression that he thought I was going to give my services free!! Talk about have one's cake and eating it too!!
