Mike Dunn owns Master Kelwin.
I think his son runs MK Prep.
MK Floorprep is the Floor Preparation only side of the Company which if you wanted to do floorprep (Self Levelling cements, Shot Blasting, Scabbiling etc) for something different you could go that way....

I have been told that good Installers working for companies like MK can invoice up to $200k/year....

Hi Sarah

My husband is a carpet fitter and we are keen to move to Oz. We are right at the start of the process though and just waiting for pathway D to come back. In the meantime we are trying to work out where is best to live as weve never been and want to go where they need carpet fitters. Do they need fitters in Brisbane then? What is it like there? Do you know any other areas where he could earn a good living? Also, does your husband work as an employee of Master Kelwin or sub-contractor? Wages sound good - is that what most fitters earn out there? Do you have contact details? Sorry for all the questions! Really want to make sure we are doing the right thing.

Post Carpet, Vinyl, laminate fitters Domestic And Commercial

Hi everyone. Been viewing all your posts on carpet fitters etc . Myself and my work partner and our wives and kids are in the visa process and hope to be joining you down under some time in the near future. We have passed the points tests and off to Leeds expo on sunday to get plenty more info/advice on which visa is best job prospects etc. We are both carpet, vinyl and laminate fitters dom/commercial , both have over 16 years exp in the game and presently work for a large north west flooring store and exhibit/event specialist in the uk. any more useful advice would be very much appriciated in work around the queensland area, including any contacts ,who would possibly accomodate 2 enthusiastic dynamic fitters in the near future.
Thanks Steve and Chris

I lent him my own personal truck for 8 weeks, without him paying me a cent for its usage & he was also not replacing my $70aus worth of fuel every week that it came back to me without.

He doesn't pay his accounts with my boss & my friends businesses & they were only letting him get away with it because he worked for us.

We were dealing with the debt collectors most weeks for him.

Unfortunately there would be only 50% of flooring installers in Australia that actually look at themselves as being a small business & running it professionally & not blaming the retailers for all their problems.

For some reason in most installers minds, the retail business is the one doing it easy, making all the money & ripping the staff off.

It's easy blaming everyone else except the people that are actually causing the problem...

I'm an installer, I did my 4 years as an apprentice, did all my TAFE & never ever had my boss pay all my TAFE fees or carry me like all our apprentices & staff get know, yet I am greatfull for everything I get & I also know both sides of the fence....

I have had many discussions with staff in my role as a manager & it always amuses me what people think they are worth.

Another problem is most young people have never lived in an era when it was tough, they haven't experienced recession or doing it tough financially like there parents did.

They wouldn't even think far enough ahead that life, jobs etc may become scarce & you will have to be actually good at your job & not just turn up & be paid.

Most peoples financial problems can be traced back to their spendings not their earnings.

I will not get bitter about all these things as if you do, you really shouldn't be in business as you always have to be positive.
Hi Gizmoe. We would really like to have a chat, if u had time, when we come over in October. We will be looking for work in Queensland , ready to make the move in the near future. We are a well experienced 2 man team in both domestic and commercial flooring. TY Steve & Chris

hi donovan,
Me and my family were looking at getting a sponsor to come over due to having no qualifications (have nearly 10 years experience as a floor fitter)without much luck. At then it was mentioned about a company that get your skills qualified but that is an extra expense on top of what we have budgeted so it could be a while yet but any info you can provide will be gratefully received

Cool Looking for work as a carpet fitter

Hi there. My name is Kris, I am 25 years old, I am from Edinburgh, Scotland. I am a fully qualified time served floorlayer. Looking to come to Australia first on a working holiday visa first to make sure I like it and to sort a job out fitting before I move there for good. Would be a massive help if you could put me in touch with people needing good fitters. I have been told that a working holiday visa can be obtained in 48 hours and that I could apply for a permanent skilled visa while I am in Australia. I was given this information by the Australian migration associates ltd. Could you tell me if this is true? And if you know of anybody else that has tried this, many thanks Kris
