Question ANY PLASTERERS IN OZ?? - answer this please?!?!

Hi, anybody out in Oz a plasterer, this one's for you. My OH is solid plasterer here, all his work at mo is boarding + skimming internally. After reading a few posts on this site, he has convinced himself that there will be no demand for his particular skills in Oz and is backing out of applying!
Can anyone put our minds at rest - is there any demand for this type of work, is what the plasterers do over there similar or is what they do easy enough for him to learn? I'm trying to convince him that they wouldn't advertise fibrous/solid plasterer on MODL if it was totally difference skill, but then what do I know!!!?????

Any advice would be so much appreciated

Thanks everyone.

I don't know for sure about plasterers, but as you say it would not be on the MODL if there wasn't a VERY large demand for it. I work as a programmer and my skills were taken off the MODL a few years ago and are now back on again, so they do keep the MODL very up to date with what they require.

Hi Sadsmile,
I Too Am A Solid Plasterer, I Believe That In Australia The Plastering Is A Little Bit Different To Over Here, What They Call Fibrous Plastering Seems To Be What We Call Taping And Jointing, And This Seems To Be Pretty Much Mainly All They Do Internally From What I Have Read, But I Do Believe They Are In Need Of People Who Can Render The Outside Of Properties And This Is In Demand, So If Your Husband Can Render He Should Be O.k. I Should Not Think That The Fibrous Side Of Things Would Be Hard To Pick Up, At Least I Hope Not.

Hi, kazmatt, thanks for that. It's pretty much what we thought - I'm more of a risk taker than OH so he's taking some persuading to leave his cosy bubble in the UK!! Just trying to present him with as many facts as possible to whet his appetite!! What stage in the process are you at and how have you found things (eg TRA assessment etc) so far??

Tra Was Quite Difficult Due To Being Self Employed, Had To Get References Off All Contacts I Deal With, Letter Of An Accountant, References Of Past Employers, Was Relieved To Have Passed It,we Are Now Waiting For Acknowledgement, Before We Can Go For Meds.still A Few Months Away From A Visa Yet I Think. The Waiting From One Part To The Next Is A Killer, You Hear Nothing For Ages.
