Any nurses in Aus??

Hi

Hope you can help.

Im thinking of a career change once in Aus and my children have started school in a few years time.

I met a girl yesterday who is doing a 2 yr course as an Operations Department practicioner. Ive had a look at the NHS website and I think Id find it really interesting but can't seem to find the equivalent in Aus.

Do they have ODP's or theatre assistants in Aus, if so, do most people get there through nursing or are there any specific courses???

OPD only do a two year course, a lot shorter and condensed than nursing [don't have the same hols as nursing courses], typically OPD's work in ITU, theatres and sometimes A+E but not on the wards. have friend who is an OPD and she is off to melbourne next year so it is possible. you could try google ' ing operating department practitioners on the australian google site
