Anyone answer this one please?

Hi, can anyone help please? Just at the intial "considering moving" stage at the moment - hubby has been working as a plasterer since summer of 2004. I'm not sure whether he would be classed as fully self-employed -he's not on anyone's books full time- he has worked mainly for large construction firms, boarding, skimming etc. I know his trade is listed on the SOL and MODL - does he have to wait to get TRA assessment when he's been working for full 4 years or can we get the ball rolling before that? Also, would it be a good idea for him to do a visit over there to suss out the work situation before we pack up house, home (+ 3 kids!) and if he was to be offered a job whilst out there, would that help/speed up our application process?

Any advice from those in the know would be great thanks.

hi i am also a plasterer, i had to go back six years with my tra, i know things changed as from sep 01 this year, and i think you now need to have qualifications or be able to prove the amount of hours you have done in college. i found it quite hard on the tra being self employed, had to get tax returns, references, letter of accountant, although i did not even use one, all sorts really. my suggestion would be to pass the tra first before going any further, hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for that. Can't seem to find out whether its 3, 4 or 6 years (which he dont have yet!)experience he needs to prove. Acquaintances out there keep saying they are crying out for plasterers so don't know whether to send him out there to see if he can get job offer first? What do you think?

The general job situation

I am an electronics Technician

Arrived in Perth June 2007

Saturday is the best day for job adverts

There were over 30 pages of jobs
60% Building trades
20% Mining Industry
19.9 % the rest
And only 2 electronics jobs in my trade so I moved Melbourne.
In August

I get the Impression the housing boom will continue until
The Minerals boom falters.

One bit of advice
If you have time obtain an additional skill
HGV, Fork lift Licence etc before you leave the U.K.

So if there is a down turn in the building trade you will
At least have some work.
