Question Calling All Plasterers!!!!!

Hi, wonder if anyone can help??
My husbands been a self-employed plasterer for nearly 4 years and (I am) desperate to make the move to Australia. However, he's not so keen, mainly because he's scared of losing the security of work here, good wages, up-rooting the children (aged 11,5 and 1) etc . Think if he could see that there are good opportunities for him over there he would be a lot happier. Does anyone have any experience in this field; if so, I have a list of questions as long as my arm, if you don't mind taking time out to answer them, please!!

Help would be very much appreicated.

Thank you.

Hi, we are two months into the process and it is quite difficult so you both have to be totally comitted, im also a plasterer and run my own business with plasterers working for me, so I understand your hubby's dilema, why leave when your are doing well. All I can say is no one knows whats around the corner and we have had 10 really strong years in the construction industry but will it continue? add to that competition from european imigrants and we could be in for some tough times in the next few years. I can now employ a quality plasterer for less than I could five years ago as there are more avaliable. Will it be better in Oz who knows, but you only live once and having been out there and having friends who made the move three years ago the lifestyle seems to be more balanced and less stressful. Hope this sort of helps.

General Job Situation

I am an electronics Technician

Arrived in Perth June 2007

Saturday is the best day for job adverts

There were over 30 pages of jobs
60% Building trades
20% Mining Industry
19.9 % the rest
And only 2 electronics jobs in my trade so I moved Melbourne.
In August

I get the Impression the housing boom will continue until
The Minerals boom falters.

One bit of advice
If you have time obtain an additional skill
HGV, Fork lift etc before you leave the U.K

So if there is a down turn in the building trade you will
At least have some work.
