Carpenter needs help on Sunshine Coast

Hi There,

I wring on behalf of my hubby, hes a carpenter.
We arrived on the sunshine coast about 4 weeks ago, and he started to look for work. Hes been told by numerous people that he needs to get Licences, which is fine, but the agencies wont even speak to him, until he gets his skills assessed again, and gets the Australian Qualification !!

This is no problem, and hes more than happy to do it, but what we want to know, is whats the best way to get work in the mean time ?? Should he just do labouring?

If anyone has any ideas, or found themselves in the same boat, any advice would be great !!

Also, I think it was silver stargazer ( Hope thats right ) gave us a contact name a while ago, of simon burbage, but his e-mail doesnt seem to wotk anymore, if you read this silver stargazer, do you have any other contact for Simon, as when we contacted him before, he was kken for my hubby to e-mail once we arrived ??

Hoipe this isnt to long winded.

Any advice would be great.

Ang and Family !!

You were asking for help but got no response.

Sorry I can't help you out ................... cos I'm over in WA not QLD.

To bump the thread............... is to hopefully jog someone into action over there.......... and help you out with your request if they can?

It's unusual to wait too long............... loads of knowledgeable friendly people on this site in each and every state.

good luck

Sorry i haven't got any advice for you but i am also a carpenter/joiner who is due to arrive in oz in Jan 08. I've obviously got it wrong as i thought that all i needed was to get my tax file number along with my blue card and i could then go to work.
I went to oz earlier this year and have met some prospective employers who didn't mention anything to me about having to get australian certificates before employing me. This is now also worrying me. Can you tell me, and once again i apologise as i know you're seeking the advice and now i'm seeking your advice, how long is it going to take your hubby to get these oz qualifications sorted out?
I'll keep a close eye on this thread as i know someone will answer you shortly.
Thanks for your time.
Eddie

Hey there, I think it kind of depends on what state you are you are going to ?? Its different in Qld than it is in WA ??

However, I think hubby has to submit all what he used for his TRA to the relevant people, and they will asses it, in order to gain Oz certification. He also has to get Licenses as well ? It might be worth doing a search on google.com.au, see what it tells you on there. Also, theer is a bit of info on the TAFE websites as well ??

However..... if anyone else could help us out, that'd be great.

Ang

Hi these are questions I've been wondering about(my oh is a roofer)
I've e mailed the bsa in Queensland to get help but they haven't replied!!
web add; www.bsa.qld.gov.au

Coppsco(pio member) is a carpenter & got work fairly easily(no licence just blue card) , although I think the moneys not that great yet! I'm not 100% sure but I think he got work thro' an agency!! Good luck, it's all a bit worrying to think we go thro' the TRA & then it's all for nothing once arriving!!

Hi there.

Tim has just got a job as Trade Electrician as he is in the same position until he gets his training. We has to apply for his ARTC which he initially failed and had to do a 1hr telephone interview then he got his blue card and licence. I will speak to him tonight and see if can give you some advice i dont know whether and electrician is the same as a carpenter but it might help.

Also did you know on the first Sunday of every month there is a pom meeting in Moffat Beach, it maybe an idea to go along there and pick up some leads im sure there are lots of Trades people who go along who will only be to happy to help out.

Good Luck Im sure it will be fine it took tim 8 weeks or so.

Hello,

I hope you can help me too !, we are hoping to be out in Perth by summer 2008, my hubby passed his tra as a carpenter but he's also a painter and decorator. How do you get blue card ? is there a western austalia website that explains how you can be self employed, I thought passing the TRA would be enough ?

Thanks soo much for any help you can give me
