Question Help wanted with references from old employers

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help us.

My OH is a mechanic and needs to get references from ex-employers to be used for the skills assessment. He has contacted ex-employers and they ask what he wants them to put because they are just used to the normal reference, who he is, how long he worked for them and that he was a good worker etc. Obviously the reference we need is slightly more detailed, but just how detailed does it have to be?

Does anyone have an example of such a reference that they used for their old TRA application or any help with the wording. (we know the rules have changed).

We want to make the whole process as easy and straight forward for the ex-employers as possible, so if we have something to show them they will understand what we are looking for.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Julia and Kent

Is a tricky one because you are expecting ex employers to go the extra mile for you out of the kindness of thier hearts. Luckily for me I only had a prev employer and my current employer to cover the 6 years timescale but this still took a while to get it spot on.
Basically you are trying to prove without a shadow of a doubt you know your onions.
What I did was write out my own reference detailing equipment used, tools used, jobs performed etc along with any quals or certs. I sent this to ex employer as a template, they then added thier own stuff, emailed back to me ,i passed this on to immi officer and once he was happy I asked ex employer for a signed hard copy on company letterheaded paper.
Takes a couple of goes to get it right but youll get there in the end.....good luck!

HI GUYS WE ACTUALLY WROTE OUT OUR REFERENCES OURSELVES AND GOT OLD EMPLOYERS TO COPY THEM ON TO HEADED PAPER AN SIGN - BIT CHEEKY I KNOW BUT THEY DIDNT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO PUT IN LETTER AND IT DOES HAVE TO BE PRETTY DETAILED
THE TRA ARE LOOKING TO SEE EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS ALL TOOLS USED RIGHT DOWN TO THE LAST LITTLE NUT AND BOLT - BETTER TO PUT IN AS MUCH AS POSS THEY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR CHARACTER REFS SO NO POINT THEM PUTTING DOWN WHAT A GREAT WORKER O/H WAS AS THEY JUST AINT INTERESTED.
REMEMBER TO ADD ANY TRAINING / COURSES /QUALIFICATIONS GAINED WITH EACH EMPLOYER. AS MENTIONED IT HAS TO BE ON HEADED PAPER .HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE
GOOD LUCK

Have you got an agent,

My agent has given us a list of duties that should be included in refereces for Electrician we are drafting them and senting them to agent how is then giving advise of what to take away and what else they need init. Theres a form called ASCO which lists tasks that you should have done.

Im very new to all this to just getting references together, its proving to be more difficult that i thought it would be

Hi
OH passed TRA as a Mechanic this year and I would be more than happy to send you examples of the format we used and also the reference we had done.

If you PM me your email address, I'll send over copies. I'm NOT saying it's def. the way you should do it but it worked for us and also friends of ours who are already in Australia.

Good luck, this is the hardest part - Joanne
