UK nursing diploma - OK for Oz?

Hi Everybody,

Just a quick question, (i only ever post on here with questions sorry)
I'm training for my DipHe in adult nursing over here, a 3 yr course which allows me to work as a registered nurse in the UK (get pin number can dispense meds etc).
My mentor on my latest placement is from NZ and has just told me that in NZ you can only work as a registered nurse there if you have a Bsc and she thinks it is the same in Oz... in other words i would only be able to work as an enrolled nurse and not a registered nurse which basically means 3 yrs of hard work would be wasted......
Have to say i've never heard this before and thought as long as you were a registered nurse in UK then you could take that over there (subject to skills assessment from ANMC blah blah blah).
Can anuone shed some light for me please?
Cheers xxxxxx

Hello Pink

I am a registered nurse here on the gold coast and i only did the diploma in Adult Nursing in the UK. Ive never had a problem getting registered here in OZ and didn't have a problem with the skills asessment that had to be done by the ANMC for my permanent residency. Dont know what the rules are in NZ but my friend who did her training with me in the UK has just moved to NZ and she only has a diploma.
Dont worry you'll be fine. You may have to provide a transcript of training in order to register with the state you want to live in but thats easily done you just have to get on to the Uni you're training at and they should provide it.

Hope this puts your mind at ease.

I trained before the diploma (just celebrated 25 years in nursing) and as long as you are registered as a Registered nurse in UK you can work as an RN in aus.

hi,
I'm
about to go into my final year but mine is the BSc (hons) route, but as far as
im
aware you can work with a diploma as a nurse.
Though you may, we may i should say find it difficult to find work as a newly qualified but in Oz they do graduate programs for NQ, its a year long, no assignments, no exams but you get paid too. Also a lot of hospitals offer sponsorship for you and your family.
At the end of the day, as long as you are on the NMC register your a RN whatever the route you took.
Though, another option for you if you really want to 100% sure, is why not convert in your final year to the BSc program? i wish i had done this, the bursary is crap on the BSc!
Good luck with your course, hope it all goes well for you
