IT in Australia

Hello all at PomsInOz,
I have recently decided that getting out of Wales is a good idea as there are no IT jobs to be found, then i thought what the heck why not Australia, land of BBQ's and Neighbours. Thing is I have no idea how to go about it, and no-one to ask so I found this place.
I have done a degree in Astrophysics and more recently a masters in Computing and want to start a career in IT, is Australia the place to go? Would I get in? How do I get in?
It may seem like I haven't bothered with an research and I'm taking the easy route by asking you, well that would be partially right, this was my first stop before I attempt to figure out the other web sites on the subject.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Damien.

IT In Australia

Hi Damien

Australia is a good place to come to for IT work as there's loads of it and probably less competition that the UK.

However, we are flooded by highly educated graduates with no commercial experience, therefore, I would recommend talking to one of the global consulting companies (KPMG, Accenture, Deloitte, E&Y etc) in the UK and see what they say about your chances with them. They might even sponsor you but be prepared for long hours and hard work.

www.seek.com.au is the most commonly used site for advertising IT jobs, but worth checking the individual companies websites too. What stream of IT are you focusing on?

You really do need to do some research yourself as each case is individual. However, Australian unemployment is very very low and the cost of living isn't bad either so worth checking out.

Hi Damien
Australia is indeed a good place for IT - my daughter has actually been working for a specialist IT recruitment agency for the past 6 weeks in Sydney - www.infopeople.com.au - look them up and perhaps they can help you find what you're looking for?
