generally a second class welder will have a limited amount of skill, ie the number of processes he can do, ie stick, mig, tig, fcaw and smaw. He would be able to weld , but not in every position, or use air arc and burn/ prep joints.

in short what we in the uk call a semi skilled welder or production welder.

most companies who advertise for 2nd class expect some of the skills of class 1, but will only pay class 2.

if your a structural, petro chem or a ship yard welder then most would say this is class one.

welding exhausts, furniture or any other batch/production type is class 2

mick (boilermaker/welder)
