Kind of new to the site----I have been reading posts for a while. Can any one tell me how nurses pay/ scales work? I have been qualified for 8 years. I have renal experience but for the past 3 1/2 years have been in the community (health visitor). Does academic qualification have any impact on wages? I have a nursing degree and a hons degree in community health (health visiting and school nursing). Was thinking of craming in a masters in public health before we get over (nxt year). Is this a waste of my time or sanity! ?
Any info welcome!!

Sorry I dont know the answer at the moment, but we are moving to Perth, soon as the house is sold. My wife is a health visitor and has the msc in Public health so I guess we will find out when we get there.
good luck
ps we got the visas on her skills
Can't believe I've found another Health Visitor on this site was beginning to think i might be the only one!!!
I have the same quals as you (have done 3 modules towards the masters in public health...not sure I will have the time to finish it tho), and am also a midwife (about to do a short 'return to midwifery' course) as I am struggling to find a "like for like" health visiting job in Oz. We have just started the visa application process and are hoping to move to the Southport area in Queensland. What jobs have you been considering and have you found out any info about whether they have H.Vs??
Hi as far as i know they dont have HV's in aus :( Although, a friend of mine is going over to aus next week and will find out what kind of children and families set up they have. I think imight have to become a real nurse  for a while and go back to my renal routes (if all else fails!). If I find anything out I will PM you. I know another HV who is wanting to emig to aus too! So between the three of us Im sure we will suss it out! I am hoping to go july 2008 was dead set on perth but scary house prices are swaying me to other states!

Hi, I am also a Health Visitor hoping to emigrate to Brisbane later this year. I haven't found a job yet either! Although they don't have Health Visitors in Oz, in Melbourne they do have "maternal and child health nurses" and i believe in other states they have clinical nurses on the community with a similar remit. Failing this, I think I will also be going back to the acute setting. If I find out anything- will let you know.
My wife is a nurse and she too spent a number of years in the UK doing HV. She has also done general nursing as well as midwifery. When it came to having her quals recognised over here, the Health Visiting was not recognised at all, also it was ignored when assessing the number of years experience she had which of course affects your rate of pay !!

PS I see you are a Mortgage Consultant- how long would I have to be in aus before we can get a mortgage?

G'day
It sort of varies acording to your deposit and your occupation.
Being a Nurse, as long as you have enough to cover the fees (which vary by state) and some sort of deposit , the day you get your first pay would not be an unreasonable time to apply. Expect a gap of about two months from when you apply to when you move in.
