IT&T Sales or Technical Job Seekers in Melbourne etc.
Hi everyone.
I posted some time ago before I got to Melbourne for IT&T Sales People looking for work in Melbourne.
I'm here and getting established, so if you are coming over from the UK and want to discuss getting a job in Melbourne, do get in touch. I can't necessarily help people needing sponsorship (although some clients may consider it) but can help find a new role for you within great companies.
Also, I work with a team of IT recruitment specialists (SAP, CISCO, networks/security, GIS, Developers, Project Managers etc) so anyone looking in these fields, do get in touch and I will pass your details along.
We have an office in Sydney and Brisbane so I can also forward details for people dettling in these areas.
Best of luck to everyone making the move, yes it's scarey, yes you get homesick, yes everything is weird at first, yes property can be more expensive than you expect it to be but it's a great country and I love it!
I've just started to look at the options for migrating (scored 110 on points test) and am looking to get in touch with a number of IT recruitment specialists.
Can you provide any assitance with contacts in either the Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne areas.
My particular areas of expertise are IT service management and project management.
I am looking to move to Perth in Dec-2007 and would be looking at an IT job there, primarily as an Analyst/Programmer. If you have any good contacts there, then let me know!!
Thanks for the post. You can view the roles my agency have available at http://www.gapcg.com.au as examples. Most of these roles are open to Australian residents only but there may be some individual clients who will look at sponsoring. (I know of a Business Intelligence vendor who will for instance).
The rarer your skills or industry sector experience, the more chance you have of sponsorship obviously. If you both give me your top 3/4 skills, I'll do some digging.
We do not have an office in Perth at present, however, we do occasionally recruit for clients with a need there. What languages do you code in Dazz? My colleague only recruits developers and things are very busy for him, especially web development. Roles seem to have switched more to Permanent of late, but that can always change back again.
Be prepared, if you do secure sponsorship, the visa process is very quick, so you would need to be prepared to move within 6-12 weeks. If you are not ready for that yet, hold off until just before you are.
I am currently undergoing the ACS skills assessment and in waiting mode - it's been 4 weeks so far and still "to be allocated".
I am probably not in a position to up-and-go within 12 weeks due to family commitments, but that might change if the skills assessment comes back positive.
As a programmer, I have Cobol, SQL and Unix skills, as well as skills in the Kronos WFC time and attendance software package. However, I have mainly been doing an analyst role of late, but am open to learning new languages, etc.
Whats the state of play with regards to optical fibre engineers in Oz?
I'm going thro' a state sponsored paper trail at the moment but am a little concerned at the amount of business in this field available?
Regards
Dave

Hi PJ
I am very new to this so please excuse me if this is the incorrect way to reply. Me and my family (wife and 3 kids 11,9 and 5) are in the very very early stages in planning our migration to australia. I am currently employed as an IT sales manager for a small reseller in the north east of england. A couple of things;
Can you help with job vacancies?
Do i need to do this at this very early stage?
In your experience what are your recommendations?

Keith,
My wife and I have just applied for a state sponsored visa for a new business set up in Queensland. I'm in the network cabling game which I assume is closely related to you.
If you need any help with info, I'm happy to do what I can.
Best of Luck

The one thing I would recommend is to use the services of a migration agent if you're in any doubt as to your skills and or visa.
We use Migration Direct and Paul, the owner has been great, to the extent that I do'nt think we'd have got the forms correct without him.
Our application is in and we'll be going, all being well in mid 2008.
