Oz Expo..(London 7th July). Is it worth an electrician going to find an employer?
We have our visas and are moving to WA in September. We are all set to go to this expo next weekend but having read through the list of employers aren't sure it's worth our while?
Does anyone have experience (tradies) of this? We had hopes of giving out cv's and getting a job (haha). Are we dreaming?
I can see from previous posts that some people have found them useless! We don't really need to speak to shipping/banks companies etc as we have INTERNET for that!
It seems they want engineers more and people with degrees, not general electricians?
Any advice before we buy our tickets and pay the babysitter?
Cheers!

I can only tell you that I went to one although I am a nurse. I found it really useful by seeing face to face people who have been invaluable to help me sort visa and job and sponsorship and bank account and pension etc.. and took me dream to reality where I am now on the brink of the visa being issued...I have to say I took cv with me that never came out of the bag! I cant comment on other trades but i paid at the door and it was about the same price as a cinema ticket so for me it was a good couple of eye opening hours. good luck with it all :D

If im honest i found them a waste of time.. we made the mistake of going twice but at least the second time it was actually to meet a employer and we got free tickets for them. a 4 hour drive! The ones i went to didnt seem to have much for tradies, like you say - it was all engineers and mostly healthcare. Its good for those sort of jobs. Theres one company i remember being there for electricians and they were called Down Under tradies. Go onto their website and contact them. If electrician isnt specifically on their job list i wouldnt bother tbh

My husband is an electrician and we went to manchester earlier this year it was a waste of time for us really they're only interested in sponsoring engineers not trades. I think that this is due to electricians having to be licensed out there and I don't think you can obtain one until you are there.

Sorry I am so stupid sometimes as you already have your visa maybe you will have more luck.

Hmmmm.... I'm thinking it may not be worth our while. :( Typical that my husband has one of the only jobs that requires full re-training in Oz just to get a foot in the door! Tut!
Thanks x
